Bryan Singer Confirmed To Direct 'X-Men Apocalypse' Plus How It Links To 'Days Of Future Past' Revealed

Last week came a double whammy of news over at Fox, that was more or less an early Christmas present for comic movie fans: first, it was announced that “X-Men: Apocalypsewas set for a 2016 release date and second, it would likely be part of a Marvel-esque universe of movies writer Simon Kinberg was building. Well, today brings with it a couple more updates starting with Vulture confirming that Bryan Singer will be back in the director’s chair for ‘Apocalypse,’ but perhaps more intriguingly, word has already surfaced on how it links to “X-Men: Days Of Future Past.” Warning: MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD.

The guys over at FirstShowing got their hands on a recent draft of ‘Days Of Future Past,’ and not only does it reveal who will be playing the entity known as En Sabah Nur, but also that the movie will tie directly to ‘Apocalypse’ in the following manner. Again, big spoilers ahead— here’s what FirstShowing had to say:

…the [‘Days Of Future Past’] credits bumper jumps back to the past with a young Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) in a ramshackle house in the desert eating dinner, clearly on the run from all the authorities who want to bring him down. While using a well outside to get some water, the young Magneto sees something fall from the night sky and crash to Earth nearby. Upon inspecting the impact zone, he encounters what is described as an “alien form” who is “towering, terrifying, with a twisted metal face and dark pits for eyes.” It’s Apocalypse and he says, “I have crossed rivers of time to find you.” Magneto asks, “Who are you?”

The alien responds, “I am your future.” Suddenly Apocalypse merges with Magneto, who screams and blasts an insane amount of energy and shockwaves around him. This energy explosion levels everything around him, with a blast radius that goes for miles. As Magneto looks at what he’s done, he has a realization of the power he now holds and a villainous grin begins to form before the film cuts to black.

So, will the smorgasboard of ‘Days Of Future Past’ mutants be back to kick ass? Not exactly. According to Vulture, ‘Apocalypse’ is a “direct sequel” that has been set up to “to focus strictly on the younger McAvoy-Fassbender cast,” though as always, it’s probably a safe bet there will be some cameos and whatnot, because that’s what the fans like. (Bleeding Cool reports that some of the “present” timeline cast could be back).

Thoughts? Is Apocalypse a worthy adversary? Do you like how he’s being established? Let us know below. “X-Men: Apocalypse” arrives on May 27, 2016.

Bad* not had. Galactus cloud was the most disappointing ripoff ever. I doubt that they will rob us of such an awesome character again. Conversation at fox: yknow ffs ane x mens coolest villains? Yeah of course. I have. An. Idea! Lets turn one into a horing cloud. Perfect! Cuz thats why this fan favorite villain has endured for 45 years. Cuz hes a cloud! The fans are gonna love us! Okay ive gotta nother one lets turn apocalypse into a ghost alien. Of course. That makes perfect sense!

Not into that at all. Apocalypse is Not an alien he is the oldest mutant. ill be extremely disappointed if hes a body snatching ghost alien. Just as had as galactus cloud.

Knowing Fox's Marvel universe, they will probably use Ultimate Cable (Wolverine/Hugh Jackman), who is Fox's golden boy. I'm not getting myself all riled-up or overly disappointed at what might happen in the next movies. I think/hope they bring back Cyclops as a horseman (to tie in some sort of AoA thing), and that the Magneto/Apocalypse merge is really more like a horseman transformation process of some sort.. The long and short here is there are endless possibilities for what this "merge" may be. And also remember that: *insert sarcasm* every script is final…

Magneto? That's disappointing. I'd prefer a unknown mutant being introduced as his vessel not magneto being the bad guy again. I hope apocylips isn't a spiritual being but a actual 10 foot tall blue badass. Im eager to see it

I really can't believe you fanboys. The greatest insult to X-Men readers was bringing Jean Grey back to life and all the nonsense with Jean/Madeline. If you could put up with that, you can put up with whatever they do with Apocalypse.

Sounds like Apocalypse comes to the past searching for Magneto so he technicaly isn't an alien

Ehhh. Bryan Singer tweeted that Apocalypse isn't a alien. So I'm not so sure about this. I know in the comics Apocalypse has had dealings with the Celestials and others but I hope they keep things simple.

If you think about it, there are so many different version of the X-Men in the comics and the cartoons, so it's not farfetched for the filmmakers to create their own version as well. Am I happy with every way they adapt the story….NOT AT ALL! But I'm definitely happy to see my favorite superhero team on the next big screen. Bryan Singr just needs to step it up on the action and I'll be fine!

I hope the adamantium on Wolverine's bones gets ripped out by this bad @$$ Magneto!

Sounds either like the beginnings of Onslaught or maybe Magneto being a Horseman. Either way, I don't necessarily have a problem with the Marvel cinematic universe having it's own versions of classic Marvel stories. I'm always interested in seeing different ways of telling a certain story however, I can understand that many, if not most, fans wanna see things on screen exactly the same way they are in the books. Which of course hardly ever happens. Still, I was hoping for something AoA-ish.

what…the…entire…gd…f#*%..this is dumb. if mags is a horseman then okay..but if he is apocalypsE?? f that i give up on these damn x-men movies its so lame how they just destroy all the stories. just rename all the characters and call it something else FOX! call it "NextMen" so we all know its based on x-men type ideas, but it clearly has nothing to do with x-men at all. people might say i'm being a fanboy, but if they woulda took voldemort and said "hey guys guess who voldemort really is in our next movie….RON WEASLEY! turns out he was time displaced
Ron the whole time" potter fans would lose their shit

Why? Apocalypse is a character, how can these writers overlook so much of comicbook history, and go with, "oh well lets just merge magneto and apoc" sounds like "last stand" all over again, well done fox on another rubbish lead up on a possibly best xmen saga ever,

what happens to reading the age of apocalypse, is 44 comicbooks too hard to take any influence from, I'm betting they screw this up, and once again make wolverine the hero, not magneto or Cyclops, fox, should just reboot, like what Sony did with the Spiderman franchise. Amazing Spiderman, actually has the correct content in its storylines, xmen screwed up when the team was never the original members. Nor classing Cyclops as the leader/hero, and killing him off (totally fkd writing) good luck singer, hope you stick around to see this though this time

I agree with Dr Sinister,it smells of Onslaught..and Zorian,if they did a proper Age Of Apocalypse it would be amazing but i dont think its gonna be anything like that.

God no dont do that. You cant have Apocalypse without some connection to Egypt. He's not from space and this whole merging with Magneto is pish!!!!

If Apocalypse is featured, Cyclops & Jean Grey MUST be brought back.
They are the most essential along with Sinister in a story concerning the most ancient and dangerous mutant, for their bloods mixed produced a genetically superior mutant called Cable who proved to be Apocalypse's greatest threat.
Don't screw up, Singer.

Doctor Sinister

Looks like they're doing an amalgam of Apocalypse and Onslaught
