Christian Bale Thinks He'll Be Cut From The Untitled Terrence Malick Film; Shot Less Days Than Scheduled

And so 2013 draws to a close, and even though production started on two different, new Terrence Malick films back in 2011, there is still no sign of either “Knight Of Cups” or his Untitled Music Scene project. Both movies feature extensive, starry cast members who dropped by to work on the movie at various junctures, and both have plot details which are a mystery to everyone but Malick, but it looks like there is one major star you can likely count out of one of the projects.

Christian Bale recently stopped by to chat with Thompson On Hollywood, and the inevitable question about the status of the Malick films came up, and he reveals that he basically wasn’t really in the music scene movie. “With ‘Knight of Cups’ I was there the whole time. The other one I unfortunately wasn’t able to do everything I was meant to do, so I ended up doing like three, four days on that. Which in Terry’s world means you’re never going to see me in it,” he said.

But reassured, both movies are coming, with Bale confirming he’s deep in post-production on “Knight Of Cups” already (with the first official still released in May). “I’ve been doing that for months. Terry is on fire. They’re both going to get finished. There’s no doubt about it. WHEN, I can’t tell you. But they’re both going to get finished. He’s just lit up. He’s possessed,” Bale added.

So… maybe in 2014? As always with Malick, it’ll be whenever his creative muse says it’s done, but it looks like we can count Bale out for at least one of them.

Bale's role in the untitled project is connected to Haley Bennett's role, so I hope it doesn't mean that her role was reduced too just because, for I don't know what reason, Bale could only be on set for 3/4 days…
Is it because he needed holidays or because of scheduling conflict?

An actor suited for Malick if there ever was one (and there've been several). Let's hope he doesn't do that Batman voice.

Mr. Bale – as an actor, mind you – puts into perspective being an actor or (the thought of being) a director, and where he "rests" with this distinction. A relief to read him not being an overly self-centered actor who'd bleed into putting on the mantle of director as well, but instead knows his place – so to speak..

"Do you weigh in on post-production? Or do you just let the director do his thing?

– If I was a director I'd want to be able to do my own thing completely. So I will respect that with other people and that's the price you pay as an actor, that they may be cutting your very best scenes. Why did you pick that? If you don't like that, become a director or become a producer and tell them to put those scenes in. But I don't have any interest in doing that."

100bucks says Malick will have a huge cut for both of his films.

"But reassured" – Don't you mean "But rest assured"?

"Less Days THAN Scheduled"

'Shot fewer days than scheduled'! English, please!

…hence the out-of-nowhere Fassbender appearance that people thought would be a cameo but turned out to be six weeks of filming.

That Kid

I thought he was the lead in both. Well. That's Malik for you.
