So, how do you market a 4-hour, two-part sex movie when the director has taken a vow of silence from the press? Just ask Louise Vesth, a producer at Zentropa who has been the brainchild behind the campaign for “Nymphomaniac.” And full credit to her, she has gotten almost everyone talking about the movie that starts taking it off in Denmark and Norway in just over a week. But as we know by now, the four-hour theatrical cut is just the tip of the penis shaped-iceberg. The director’s longer five-and-a-half-hour cut is also due in 2014 in some fashion and there’s even more naughtiness to come.
You might remember a few months back that there were reports at a TV spinoff was also in the works and it would appear that a series is coming, though it might just be zapped directly to your computer. Vesth recently chatted with Cineuropa, and when asked about the variety of formats “Nymphomaniac” was already in arriving in, the producer noted: “We are planning to do a series for Internet distribution as well.”
Of course, whether this will be the current eight-chapter movie merely segmented into episodes or new material altogether remains to be seen, but it looks like “Nymphomaniac” will be giving it to you in more ways than one.
Meanwhile, the Danish Film Critics Association have gotten in on the fun of “Nymphomaniac,” and created their own inspired poster highlighting their excitement for the movie, to promo the upcoming 2014 Bodil Awards, which are handed out on February 1st.
“Some may think that we all just sit in our ivory towers, looking down on the film landscape with critical eyes, having no fun at all. But just like anyone else, also we can be excited by great movie experiences – and we are not afraid to share the excitement with all of you!” the group said in a statement.
