Project of the Day: 'My Beautiful Broken Brain'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

“My Beautiful Broken Brain”

Tweetable Logline: Her brain is broken. Her mind is limitless. A film about a young
woman’s cerebral haemorrhage with outcomes no one could have predicted

Elevator Pitch: “My Beautiful Broken Brain” is about life changing in the blink of an eye and a personal voyage
into the complexity, fragility and wonder of the last biological
frontier, the human brain. It’s something that could happen to any of us
– a film born out of necessity to help a young woman make sense of
having to start her life again when she was only half way through it,
following a brain haemorrhage – with discoveries and outcomes that no
one could have predicted.

It’s a story of hope, transformation and the limitless power of the human mind.

Production Team: Producer/Director Sophie Robinson, Co-Producer/Director Lotje Sodderland, Editorial Producer Michael Houldey, Editor Jim Scott, Sound Design Nick Ryan

About the Production: “The most extraordinary thing about this film is that just 3 days
after her brain haemorrhage, still in hospital, Lotje started filming
herself terrified she was losing her mind and memory. Unable to speak or
make sense of the world, she asked her family to contact me (having
only met me once before) to ask if I would help her document her rapidly
changing life. Two years later we find ourselves with hundreds of
hours of footage of one of the most remarkable stories I have ever had
the privilege to be part of. Now we want to share it.”

Current Status: Raising funds to go into edit.

I've always thought the mind is more powerful than any of us comprehend and I'm fascinated by the limitless possibilities that we, as humans create via the application of simple/ complex & positive/ negative thoughts we have everyday ( and night, in the subconscious ). I would love to see this film come to fruition and if there is anything I can do to help this happen, let me know

Ree Lahti

My Beautiful Broken Brain wins hands down. I too have a brain injury and Lotje explains things that I have been unable to for 6 years. Bravo to this film and the ingenuity Lotje had to clarify a set of symptoms that most dismiss but affect our daily lives in a most profound way.
