“It’s something that we’re probably going to put up next. It’s at Warner Bros. and I’m just trying to figure out who’s going to direct. We’re going to make that one. It’s a really great script. For Smokehouse, I would say ‘Our Brand is Crisis’ [is next],” producer and George Clooney-collaborator Grant Heslov told us way back in 2011. And while since then their Smokehouse shingle has delivered “Argo,” with “Monuments Men” on the way, it looks like Heslov and Clooney are finally ready to bring this project to life.
And it’s off to a helluva start with The Wrap reporting that Sandra Bullock is in early talks to star in “Our Brand Is Crisis.” Peter Straughan (“The Men Who Stare at Goats”) has penned the script for the dark comedy, which is based on Rachel Boynton’s 2005 documentary about the role of James Carville‘s political consulting firm in the 2002 Bolivian presidential election. So yes, it ticks all the boxes of something you’d expect from the Heslov/Clooney wheelhouse. But what about George? For now it’s unclear if he’ll take a role in the movie as well, but he’s not expected to direct.
So, a good first step for the movie that’s currently set up at Warner Bros., and hopefully more movement will come rapidly as this sounds very promising. Until then, here’s the trailer for the original documentary.
