'The Great Beauty' Leads European Film Award Winners

Paolo Sorrentino’s “The Great Beauty” led the 26th European Film Awards, taking prizes for best film, best director, best actor and best editing. The continent’s equivalent of
the Oscars, the awards also saw big wins for “The Broken Circle Breakdown,” “In The House” and “Love Is All You Need.” Big Cannes winner “Blue Is The Warmest Color,” meanwhile, was shut out entirely.

Having just attended the European Film Awards for the first time, I'd like to say that one of best things about the entire enterprise is that there is no campaigning. Maybe the voting members of the European Aademy have dutifuly seen all the contenders and maybe they haven't but at least they have not been bombarded by lobbying and "awards strategy."


Can The Great Beauty be nominated for big Oscar categories? Picture? Director? Actor? Original Screenplay? Cinematography?


Wim Wenders gave a moving tribute to Catherine Deneuve.


What about chances for Toni Servillo to be nominated for Bafta award? Bafta likes European movies and it happens quite often when they nominate European actors.
