‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ & 'Django Unchained' Top List Of Most Pirated Movies Of 2013

“I would be a liar if I was to say, across the board, no piracy,” Quentin Tarantino told Cannes Film Festival press back in 2004 when he was serving as Jury president. That said, he wasn’t advocating nicking movies that are legally available, instead saying that it’s an option to view movies that are harder to find via traditional methods. So we can’t imagine he’s wildly pleased about this bit of news.

TorrentFreak has released their list of the year’s most pirated movies, and following chart topper “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is Quentin Tarantino’s slavery/revenge flick “Django Unchained.” Some of that data for QT’s film could be due to China’s yanking of the film from theaters earlier this year—the country is one of the biggest markets in the world—leading to widely reported bootlegging of ‘Django’ from fans and cinephiles eager to see the movie.

Meanwhile, there are no big surprises on the rest of the list—some of the year’s most popular movies are also the ones most sought out online, duh. Check out the full list below.

It's not as though the people pirating them would have paid to see them anyway. Free word of mouth advertising is all it means.
