Watch: First Footage From Steven Soderbergh's 'The Knick' & More 2014 TV Highlights

A yearender in TV-land is a few minutes
of clips and bits that channels throw together come December to remind you
what-all awesome things you saw on their screen this year and what-all further
awesome things are coming your way in the next one (assuming you renew, hint
hint). Behold, then, those of HBO and Cinemax: a study in contrasts.

HBO, The Official Channel of the
Golden Age of Television™, reminds us of the majesty and drama of “Boardwalk
,” “The Newsroom,” “Game of Thrones” and, uh, “True Blood” as well as “Girls” and “Veep,” and you have to give it to them,
it’s not a bad line-up at all: and of course all those shows will be back next year along with a number of new
shows including the very exciting “True Detective” and Damon Lindelof‘s “The Leftovers.” Also worth keeping an eye out for is Lisa Cholodenko‘s miniseries “Olive Kitteridge” featuring Frances McDormand,  Bill Murray and many more, plus Mike Judge‘s new comedy series “Silicon Valley.”

Meanwhile, Steven Soderbergh heads to Cinemax with a his new series, “The Knick,” starring Clive Owen and set in a New York hospital about 100 years ago. Stick with this year-ender because at the 1:10 mark you’ll get some of the first footage from the series, with is already spraying a fair share of blood. There’s no air date yet, but we’ll
keep you posted. Watch below.

I don't care what HBO are offering this season, I will never forgive them for cancelling Enlightened and shrinking Treme. As far as I'm concerned they've gone over to the dark side.
