Watch Jehane Noujaim, Director of 'The Square,' on 'The Daily Show'

Netflix is releasing Jehane Noujaim’s taut, smart, timely
film The Square in January, but as she told Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last
night, the film still cannot be shown in Egypt.

With great immediacy, the
documentary (one of 15 on the Oscar short-list) takes viewers inside the
revolution in Tahrir Square, from the anti-Mubarak demonstrations to the
disappointing realization that his elected successor, Mohamed Morsi, was
assuming dictatorial powers of his own.  (You
can read my full review here.)

In Part 1 of the interview, Noujaim talks about the history
of her film. But don’t miss Part 2, the extended web-only segment, in which she talks about censorship, brings the story up to date, and discusses why, as she says, “it’s a
really dark time now” in Egypt.
