After premiering at Toronto and set to screen at Sundance next month, a new teaser trailer for Richard Ayoade’s “The Double” has just been unveiled that offers a closer peek at the film while still leaving plenty of tantalizing mystery.
Jesse Eisenberg stars as Simon, an awkward and introverted young man who is the subject of scorn by his mother and colleagues and is ignored by the woman he is infatuated with (Mia Wasikowska). Things are thrown off-balance with the arrival of a new co-worker named James, who looks exactly like Simon but presents the exact opposite personality-wise with his suave, charismatic ways. Things get even more unusual when James begins encroaching into Simon’s life and taking over his identity.
Running just under a minute, the preview amounts to several fragments of the film, showcasing Eisenberg’s quirky physical presence set to a cover of Sonny & Cher’s “Little Man.” Without giving very much away, the trailer assures that viewers that they are in for a surreal comic ride.
“The Double,” which also stars Wallace Shawn, Noah Taylor, Sally Hawkins, and Paddy Considine, will be released in theaters stateside courtesy of Magnolia Pictures in spring 2014.
