With Paul Rudd On Board as 'Ant-Man,' Edgar Wright's Vision for the Marvel Film Comes Into Focus

Now that Paul Rudd has officially been cast as “Ant-Man” in Edgar Wright’s long-in-the-works Marvel film, a few things are coming into focus. This casting suggests that Wright is going for a comedic tone — not too surprising.

Wright mentioned the other night at a “Gravity” party that he felt obligated to do this summer’s “The World’s End” first for Working Title. Wright was also waiting for VFX to catch up to his vision of the superhero — he mentioned at Comic-Con that he’d been making Ant-Man “one inch at a time.”

Meanwhile, Marvel president Kevin Feige released a statement about the hiring of Rudd, who the company contends had always been the first choice to play Ant-Man:

“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we
felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel
Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the
right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as
enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d
found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what
he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”

“Ant-Man” is hitting theaters July 31, 2015.
