YouTube sensation Cartoon Hangover has recently surpassed one million subscribers – only the second You Tube channel to do that within its first twelve months. Frederator Studios’ honcho Fred Seibert launched the site – which produces it’s own original animated content – in November of 2012 and has since generated over 17 million unique viewers and over 72 million programming views. Cartoon Hangover’s most popular series include Bravest Warriors, Bee & PuppyCat, SuperF***ers and the Too Cool cartoon anthology.
Seibert has just penned an article for Medium.com explaining “The Eight P’s of You Tube Success” which is worth your time. In it he explains that “Success IS possible on YouTube. We’ve proved it. And we did it all without resorting to “cats on skateboards” or Epic Fails, or any of the stuff YouTube is notorious for.”
Seibert knows of what he speaks – he’s been President of Hanna Barbera (back in the 1990s) and has since had a hand in such hits as The Powerpuff Girls, The Fairy Odd Parents and Adventure Time. His eight “P”‘s are Panic; Preparation; Programming; Production; Positioning; Promotion; Presentation & Personalization.
So consider this a ninth “P” – for “Plug” – by me, for a great article by a man who is changing the face of animation production and distribution, one click at a time.
