Pierre Lescure Is New Cannes President Following 2014 Festival

The Cannes Film Festival is seeing a changing of the guard. President Gilles Jacob, 83, will be leaving on July 1 of 2014, following the 67th fest, with Pierre Lescure taking over as the new president. Thierry Fremaux will continue as Cannes fest Director–the chief programmer of the festival. It will be strange indeed for Jacob not to be greeting each new film posse at the top of the Palais red carpet.

The election was held via secret vote, with Lescure being unanimously elected. His responsibilities begin on July 1. The fest’s board of directors also
appointed Gilles Jacob Honorary President of the Festival.
