What Problem? Olivier Dahan’s ‘Grace Of Monaco’ Starring Nicole Kidman To Open The Cannes Film Festival

What Problem? Olivier Dahan's 'Grace Of Monaco' Starring Nicole Kidman To Open The Cannes Film Festival

When reports surfaced last night that The Weinstein Company had yanked Olivier Dahan‘s “Grace Of Monaco” off the spring release schedule, with no word of a new date, we expected the worst. We figured it was another symptom following the director and Harvey Weinstein butting heads over the cut of the movie. But it seems they’ve solved those issues, as the movie is getting the kind of premiere that few filmmakers ever get the honor to have.

Organizers have selected the Nicole Kidman starring “Grace Of Monaco,” as the opening film of the 67th Cannes Film Festival. Co-starring Tim Roth, Paz Vega, Parker Posey, Frank Langella and Milo Ventimiglia, the film the 1962 set story follows Grace Kelly, detailing her involvement with the dispute between Monaco’s Prince Rainier III and France’s Charles De Gaulle as the threat of invasion looms.

It’s a bit of a full circle for Harvey Weinstein, who presented the first footage from the movie in a sizzle reel presentation on the Croisette last yea. As for when we’ll see it? The big opening slot suggests Harv may think this is an awards season player (it was originally slated to drop last November), so perhaps this is first stop in a big festival run and Oscar campaign for the flick.

Why does "Oh Dear" post under fifty different names? Pathetic.

Another Photoshop Fail – Nicole looks like an Avatar in the above poster.

Q. What problem?
A. Nicole Kidman

This film had a 30 million dollar budget — hardly a "low budget indie."

OH DEAR you seem to have very deep, personal issues with Nicole Kidman. The fact that her latest movie is going to open the Cannes Film Festival is obviously driving you insane. You really should calm down and step away from your computer.
I can't imagine how hard it must have been for you when she got an Oscar nomination for Rabbit Hole three years ago. Or when she got all those awards nominations from her peers for her great work in The Paperboy. Or her Emmy nom for Hemingway and Gellhorn. Or when she was chosen to be a member of Steven Spielberg's jury at Cannes last year. What about the fact that she's currently working with Werner Herzog?
But yeah, keep on trying to convince yourself that her career is in "dire straights" and that she isn't respected in the movie industry. Sure. Now take your chill pills.

Oh dear

Curious to watch an actress amplified on the big screen and be constantly distracted by a face that simply does not emote in a normal way – go see a Kidman movie.

Curious to watch an actress who believes whisperering most of her dialogue constitutes acting – go see a Kidman movie.

Curious to watch an actress where the only discernible difference between each movie role she plays comes down to the wig she wears – go see a Kidman movie.

I love it that just yesterday the Kidman haters were gloating about this movie being terrible and going straight to DVD and today it is announced it's going to open the most prestigious film festival in the world. Hehe. Kidman always wins.

Oh dear

Opening Cannes will not make any difference. Nobody will pay good money to see old Frozen Face annihilate another movie with her inept acting skills.

I'm still disappointed the release has been pushed back because I can't wait to see the movie, but I have to admit that opening night at Cannes seems like a perfect launchpad for it.

And that's a gorgeous and quite original poster.

Nicole is a superb actress!, one in a lifetime performer!
Can not way to see the film

little my

Cant wait for this, love Nicole Kidman!

SOOO happy about this! Nicole is a screen icon (people won't realise for decades though) whose work is probably the most varied of any other actor of her generation. Watch Rabbit Hole, Birth, Stoker, Dogville and The Paperboy and you'll see what a phenomenal artist she is.

I think Nicole Kidman is the best.

"and Milo Ventimiglia" Lol, OK.

I don't have very high expectations for this.

An average gay man

Amazing. I'm so excited for Kidman, she's an undervalued actress and cinephile.
