Oh cool. How to get more ad revenue by forcing people to click 15 different links. Great job, IndieWire.

Carl White

LOL, you are obsessed with Her, a sweet movie, but nothing ground breaking. Must have hit a nerve with you somehow.

Brett

I just looked up the full presenters list and I'm just gonna say that Poitier is presenting Best Picture

D. J. Fone

After reading all of Peter Knegt's choices, especially the "who should be here" addenda, I'm surprised that in the categories of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress he didn't nominate "Any woman who might have appeared in 'Inside Llewyn Davis'."

Mr. Knegt, are you a 1960s Greenwich Village folksinger who missed the brass ring?

What are the chances of a write-in campaign for Hobbit or for Riddick to win best picture? Thought Hobbit & Peter Jackson got snubbed after the first Habbit as well as Jack Reacher.

Allison

Blue Is the Warmest Color was not only the best foreign film this year, but just the best film. Period. Can't believe that the Academy completely failed to recognize it. Major robbery, Adele Exarchoupolos gave easily the most moving performance besides Cate Blanchett.

Brett

Updated early picks for 2015 Oscars:
Best Picture:
X-Men Days of Future Past-Of all the Marvel movies, this looks like The Dark Knight of those movies.

Noah-A biblical film by Darren Arronofsky (Black Swan and Requiem For a Dream)

Exodus-I know Ridley Scott sometimes makes good movies (Gladiator, Matchstick Men, Alien which is overrated, Thelma and Louise, American Gangster, Prometheus which is also overrated and Black Hawk Down) and some bad ones (Robin Hood, White Squall, Hannibal, The Counselor) but I believe this one will be good.

Into the Woods- Could be Disney's Les Miserables, it's also from the director of Chicago, and it has Meryl Streep

The Fault in Our Stars- A girl with a disease? Oscar bait, but it looks good

Transcendence-Directed by Christopher Nolan's cinematographer

Jersey Boys-Clint Eastwood directing a biopic about a 60's pop band

Big Eyes-Tim Burton's first biography film

Get On Up-Directed by the man who brought us The Help with the return of its cast

Struggle with the Light- A biography on Winston Churchill

Heaven is For Real- A religious film directed by the writer of Braveheart that looks Sixth Sense-ish.

Foxcatcher- a film directed by Bennett Miller (Capote, Moneyball)

Gone Girl-How could you go wrong with a guy like David Fincher

Interstellar-Christopher Nolan, nuff said (But they better give him a Best Director nod)

Paddington-I could tell they're making the beloved bear into an Oscar film

The Giver-It's got Meryl Streep

Unbroken-A war film directed by Angelina Jolie and written by the Coen Brothers already screams Oscar

The Cobbler-You have Adam Sandler as a lonely man in New York, that plot does sound Oscar bait, even for a Sandler film

Inherent Vice-When you have Paul Thomas Anderson, it screams Oscar.

Million Dollar Arm-A sports biography that looks really good

Draft Day-Ivan Reitman's first sports drama? Let's see how it turns out

McFarland-Another sports film with Kevin Costner

Child 44-A movie about child murder? Damn that sounds rough

Fury-A WW2 film that could be better than Monuments Men

A Most Wanted Man-Almost every film Phillip Seymour Hoffman is in gets Oscar attention (R.I.P. man)

Hobbit 3-This could be the one Hobbit movie that'll be the best of the trilogy

Love is Strange-Another film about gays, *ugh*

The Judge-A murder mystery with Robert Duvall

Grace of Monaco-A biography about Grace Kelly

The Immigrant-Looks pretty artsy like Moulin Rouge

Serena-Is every movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper gonna get nominated?

Boyhood-A movie about a lonely child

Personally, I don't see the big deal about "American Hustle;" it's pretty sloppy for a David O. Russell film and it has nothing on "Silver Linings Playbook." Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper's performances were the only two parts of the movie that I think are Oscar-worthy.

Peter Largren

Bruce Dern will get one for sure! Finally. OR, 'a special one' in 2015.

Oscars 2014

I think Oscar for Di Caprio is long time overdue techinfographics. com/oscars-infographic-2014-movies-nominated-for-best-picture/

I am really surprised Catching Fire is not on this list, however I think Jennifer Lawrence should defiantly get Best Supporting Actress for "American Hustle"

Matthew

Best Picture: "12 Years a Slave"
Best Director: Alfonso Cuarón, "Gravity"
Best Actor: Chiwetel Ejiofer, "12 Years a Slave"
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett, "Blue Jasmine"

Green

Chelsea

Every week it drives me insane that the link back to check out all categories goes to 2013. Please fix this.

MC Squared

You've got to be kidding me….."Gravity" was horrible, "12 Slaves" was just another 'poor me' pseudo-doc and "Captain Phil" was a fictionalized account of a true story…..If the author is correct in his projection then it accurately shows the decline in today's movie-making…..My choice for overall top quality (story, acting, cinematography, costuming, directing and sound? – "Saving Mr. Banks."

yuzimaru300

I am sure everyone will agree when I say this film is a very good film,
I've watched this film twice in>>>

http://free.moviess.biz/play.php?movie=1924396

I even had to download it there. you will regret it if you do not watch this film

Art

Valentino's Ghost should definitely be in the running for Best Documentary.

-

If I had to bet I'd say
Picture: 12YAS
Director: Alfonso Cuaron
Actor: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Actress: Cate Blanchett
Supporting Actor: Jared Leto
Supporting Actress: Toss-up between the actress from 12YAS and Lawrence. If I had to guess I'd say Lawrence just because she's so well-liked, but I really have no idea, lol

Academy, it's time. Even though the Best Actor race is going to be crowded (as it usually is), Leonardo definitely deserves a nomination for Wolf of Wall Street. I don't know if he should win (I haven't seen all the actors' performances in consideration), but at least nominate him.

Brett

Judging by the trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Academy will probably finally realize that Andy Serkis is a terrific actor even in motion capture, and nominate him the year after

Mizaki

Hmm i really doubt Gravity is No1 in Best Picture. But we'll see.

http://burt-oscars.blogspot.com

Aziz

RUSH is my favourite film of the year and i'm really glad Golden globes acknowledged it I hope the academy does. I haven't seen Fassbender in '12 years' or Jonah in "Wolf of Wall st" but I really hope Daniel Bruhl secures the best supporting actor award because of his magnificent perfomance (he was better than Hanks in Mr.Banks and Abdi in C.Phillips anyway). and i really hope Bale wins his second oscar for lead actor.
I have never seen such a difficult competition between films in ages!!
Love you, 2013!!

Mirko

I hope these nominations for Saving Mr Banks: best picture, actress in a leading role (Emma Thompson), actor in a supporting role (Tom Hanks), screenplay, art direction, costume design and original score. Probable victory in costume design.

pynike

"Prisoners" was great. Though I guess a lot of competition this year.

Anastasia

So weird that James McAvoy is not even in the list. His performance in Filth was stunning to say the least

Burt

I really don't think that Sandra Bullock stands ANY chance in the Best Actress race. If anyone it's Dench or Thompson. But still – it's Cate that's the frontrunner.

http://burt-oscars.blogspot.com

Brett

I think the Academy should add these categories:
Best Villainous Role
Best Actor in an Animated Feature
Best Actress in an Animated Feature
Best Supporting Actor in an Animated Feature
Best Supporting Actress in an Animated Feature
Best Villain in an Animated Feature

Brett

Since we're getting close to 2014 I thought I'd talk about next year's films for 2015 Oscars:

X-Men Days of Future Past-Out of all the Marvel movies, this looks like The Dark Knight of those movies and I also think Patrick Stewart needs a nod

Big Eyes-What?! Tim Burton directing… A BIOGRAPHY?! With Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams?! I'm in!!

Fury-A WW2 film with Brad Pitt! Only problem…Shia Labeouf is in it

Monuments Men-WW2 film by George Clooney

Noah-Darran Aranofsky's version of Noah with a promising Cast

Exodus-Another Moses film but this time it's by Ridley Scott and anything with Christian Bale is sure to succeed (Sweet! Two biblical films coming out next year!)

Winter's Tale-The writer of A Beautiful Mind is now directing! Plus Colin Farrell, Jennifer Connelly, Russell Crowe, William Hurt, and Will Smith…as a judge *snickers*

Grand Budabest Hotel-Wes Anderson nuff said

Grace of Monaco- Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly? Sounds promising

Draft Day-Ivan Reitman is fantastic at mixing comedy and drama together? But he's doing a movie that's all out drama which is based on a true story and features Kevin Costner, Ellen Burstyn, Sam Elliot, Denis Leary, Jennifer Garner, and Frank Langella (gee haven't seen him in an Ivan Reitman film yet!)

Heaven is for Real-Randall Wallace directing a movie about Heaven with Greg Kinnear? We shall see

Million Dollar Arm-A biography sports drama by Disney, plus Alan Arkin

Jersey Boys-Clint Eastwood directing a biography about Four Seasons…with Christohper Walken who could be up for another Supporting Actor nomination

The Hundred Foot Journey-Oprah producing a film about two rival restaurants with Helen Mirren? Okay

The Giver- A drama based on a novel that's set in a forest in South Africa with Jeff Bridgers and Meryl Streep…that sound's promis–oh wait…this also has Katie Holmes and Taylor Swift…well let's see how it looks next year

Gone Girl-Okay anything by David Fincher is sure to get nominated…only trouble I read about this movie is that Tyler Perry is in it

The Judge-Courtroom Dramas usually get nominated especially when you have Robert Duvall in it

Interstellar-CHRISTOPHER NOLAN!!!! That is all

McFarland-Yet another Biography sports film with Costner

Paddington-Any movie that has Colin Firth as the main star is sure to get nominated

Annie-Yep…another Annie film, but the girl from Beasts of the Southern Wild is in it and so is Jamie Foxx, this could be an Annie film that's worth a look

Into the Woods- Could be Disney's version of Les Miserables featuring Meryl Streep and Johnny Depp

Unbroken- A war film written by the Coen Brothers and directed by Angelina Jolie (who is a decent director by the way)

Zach

Zach

I think Jennifer Lawrence should be nominated for Catching Fire, she was absolutely fantastic in that movie. Jennifer showed so much emotion and made you believe every single issue her character was going through. Fantastic.

Justin

Pls watch the hunger games : catching fire ! It's prone to get about 4 nominations ! They're s good contender , better than the hobbit in my opinion !

Lanse

If Tye Sheridan doesn't get nominated for his role in "Mud" it'll be a total snub. He was outstanding .

Kate

just saw Dallas Buyers Club today. it's going to be raining Oscars for Matthew McCaughney and Jared Leto (maybe, definitely nominated for sure)

George Faraway

I agree that "Younger Every Day" was a great song from the movie 3 Geezers! The movie didnt do well at box office in limited release, but I wonder if they have the guts to nominate that song anyways. It should be at least nominated.

David

La Danza de la Realidad for Best Film!

DudeNamedEvan

Lil Mama for best actor

Burt

I think:
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave
Best Director: Steve McQueen
Best Actor: Chiwetel Ejiofor
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
Best Supp. Actor: Michael Fassbender
Best Supp. Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Best Or. Score: 12 Years a Slave

Gold teeth

The Great Gatsby should defiantly win for Best Sound Mixing! It was so well done. I was actually getting slightly distracted throughout the film because it was so realistic. It should a 100% be nominated at least. Also Sandra Should win Best Actress.

For Best Original Song, I'm guessing that Coldplay's Atlas from Catching Fire is gonna make the list.

cinesnatch

MARION COTILLARD HAS TO BE NOMINATED FOR HER SUPERB PERFORMANCE IN THE IMMIGRANT!!!

Stan

Really like the predictions.

Kevin

Here was my mock picks originally and I'm sure the academy is keeping 10 best picture nominations this year. Picture (not in rank order for any category): Blue Jasmine, Prisoners, Twelve Years a Slave, The Place Beyond the Pines, The Wolf of Wall Street, Rush, Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips, Gravity, Lee Daniels' The Butler. I just have a feeling that American Hustle is going to be bad this year.

Best Director: Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners), Alfonso Cuaron (Gravity), Steve McQueen (12 Years a Slave), Martin Scorsese (The Wolf of Wall Street), Derek Cianfrance (The Place Beyond the Pines)

Best Actor: Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 years a slave), Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Leonardo DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street), Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), Robert Redford (All is Lost)

Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club), Bradley Cooper (The Place Beyond the Pines), Harrison Ford (42), Michael Fassbender (12 years a slave), Daniel Bruhl (Rush)

Best Actress: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Amy Adams (American Hustle), Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Color), Meryl Streep (August: Osage County), Judi Dench (Philomena)

Best Supporting Actress: Eva Mendes (The Place Beyond the Pines), Oprah Winfrey (Lee Daniels' The Butler), Cameron Diaz (The Counselor), Lupita Nyong'o (Twelve Years a Slave), Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine)

Kevin

What about Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes for "The Place Beyond the Pines"? That was a powerful movie that cannot be ignored! Supporting actor and supporting actress all written for them right there.

Julia

Really dissapointed with The Great Gatsby not getting any nominations, especially for acting. Sure, the movie wasn't great at all, but I liked it, and DiCaprio and Mulligan did a great job. Maybe they'll get some Golden Globe nominations. And hopefully, the nominations for costumes, scenography and best song will come along, too.
Surprised Osage County isn't one of the leads here, it was such acting potential and might just be one of the best movies of the year.

2014 Oscar Predictions Prisoners- Best Picture,Director, supporitng actor, supporitng actress, makeup and cinematography

Cam

Marion Cotillard is one of my fav actress, i agree, she was snubbed by the Academy this year, she is worth to be nominated every year, but I've read somewhere that Harvey delay premiere of The Immigrant because she receieved great revievs for that role in Cannes Festival, and in general, he want her to be nominated and win Oscar for Actress in a Leading Role. I think that TWC will push it to release next year, because as you can see, this year competition would be very heat, Cate, Meryl, maybe Naomi, maybe Amy Adams, and that act is pretty intended, he want Marion to win.

Bob

Best Original Song: Lana Del Ray – Young and Beatiful(The Great Gatsby)

Along with maybe costumes this might be the only nomination this film sees. Agree?

Bob

Nominations for 12 Years a Slave

Best Picture
Best Director
Best Actor
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Original Score

Anything I'm missing?

Evan Brehany

Personally, I think best production design and visual effects should go to PACIFIC RIM. Hobbit is nice and all, but it is a retread while Del Toro's Pacific Rim is not only the mastering of an aesthetic (Japanese giant monster films) which has been notoriously hard for Western filmmakers to do right, but also give it an update.

Mirko

I have first name for category original score: Thomas Newman for Saving Mr Banks. Eleven nomination and no victory. Mary Poppins can to be good opportunity for Newman.

Tom

Best original song, from a low budget movie with jk simmons and Tim Allen: 3 Geezers! . . . "Younger Every Day"

Heartwarming song about growing old gracefully

Mirko

I want to predict these nominations for Saving Mr Banks: best picture, actress in a leading role (Thompson), actor in a supporting role (Hanks), original screenplay, art direction, costume design and original score. Strong contender in original score. Possibility for Hanks and original screenplay. Please, Thompson in nomination.

ROMY

The oscars in march Cannes in may

my Aunty Harper recently got BMW 1 Series Convertible by work using a laptop.

Matthew

Best Director – Steve McQueen (seriously he should have that in the bag, if you haven't already seen his other two movies, Hunger and Shame)

Best Cinematography – Larry Smith for Only God Forgives (probably won't get a nomination because of the deep art house vibe OGF has, but anyone who's seen this film knows a nomination and a win is worthy)

Best Supporting Actor – Ryan Gosling for The Place Beyond the Pines

Best Original Screenplay – Scott Burns for Side Effects, or Richard Linklater for Before Midnight

Those are my votes.

Mike

Joaquin Phoenix for Her.

Mike

Joaquin Phoenix for Her.

Fruitvale Station!

Michael

I hope Desolation of Smaug will get the oscars which Unexpected journey had deserved!!

@Alex I do not think it gets a nomination for Best Picture but maybe this time for Score, Makup, Costumes, Effects or Production Design!

What do you think? Will Hobbit get at least one or not? Maybe the last movie get one represantative for the whole trilogy! Let me know your opinion!!

Alex

I hope The Hobbit will get nominated for Best Picture?

Thomasi

Would it be churlish of me to guess that the first four commenters here were all in fact the same person? Such a streak of misinformation and bad grammar seems mathematically unlikely coming from random people.

Gerard: Cannes has already happened.
Alex and Mirko: "I hope in nomination for…" (huh?)
Andy: The movie that song comes from has not been released yet, anywhere, and as far as I can tell, there are no plans to release it in the U.S., which would be required for a nomination. Also, "Best Producer" is basically Best Picture.

ANDY BROWNSTONE

No Doubt G Clooney will win best producer or will at least be in the running.

andy brownstone

I hope Kristina Train's Waltz With me Under the Sun wins best Original Song. Cohen Bros will win best pic.

Alex

I hope in nomination for The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug!

Mirko

I hope in nomination for Saving mr Banks, with Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks,

GERARD KENNELLY

after CANNES there will be more oscar predictions
