Ewan McGregor has signed on to star in “Last Days in the Desert,” written and directed by Rodrigo Garcia (“Albert Nobbs”). He’ll actually be doing double duty: McGregor will play both a holy man and a demon, who together are journeying through a desert when they discover a family in dire circumstances. Also (!), recent ASC winner Emmanuel Lubezki is set to shoot the film. Yup, we’re on board.
This is a reuniting for Garcia and Lubezki, who many years ago made “Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Her,” the Cannes Un Certain Regard winner in 2000. “Last Days in the Desert” will begin principal photography in the Southern California desert this month.
Tye Sheridan (“Mud,” “The Tree of Life”) has also been announced to star, as the child of the desert family. Veteran Brit star Ciaran Hinds and Ayelet Zurer (“Angels and Demons”) are attached to play the mother and father roles.
