Floyd Norman on “The View”

Floyd Norman on "The View"

In case you missed it – one of our own, Floyd Norman, appeared today on ABC’s The View this morning, where he was interviewed by Whoopi Goldberg, Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepard and Jenny McCarthy. Floyd was the first black animator hired by the Walt Disney studios in 1956 – and he has made major contributions to Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, Toy Story 2, etc.

Floyd is also appearing on PBS’ The Tavis Smiley Show tonight. Here is the clip from The View

If Barbara wants to focus on animating "black kids" she should have asked Floyd about working on Fat Albert instead of tying it into The Jungle Book. Mowgli is from Central India, which is in South Asia, not Africa. Elisabeth Hasselbeck would never have lived that gaffe down. With no mention of Norman's book this interview is a squandered opportunity, but it's not like Barbara's a real journalist anyway.

What a swell guy. Would love to meet him in person one day.

Always awesome to see Floyd. He doesn't mind dispelling the myth of Walt's racism but he also doesn't like that it even has to come up so much. He's right that Walt got to such a level of fame that people feel free to make up stuff about him.

Too bad Floyd didn't get a chance to promote his new book, "Animated Life," which is excellent.

It's interesting how Barbara Walters tries to stir controversy by questioning Walt Disney's motivations for overseeing his own production, then is immediately dumbfounded as to why anyone would ever doubt the man's integrety.
