James Franco Gets His Own Film Festival at New York's IFC Center

Given the eclectic nature of James Franco’s projects, it was only a matter of time before someone thought to host a festival in Franco’s honor, and it looks like the man himself plans to attend.

New York’s IFC Center will host FrancoFest, a retrospective celebrating the work of James Franco, from March 5-13, with Franco appearing at several screenings. The festival will showcase several of Franco’s most notable performances (“127 Hours,” “Howl,” “Spring Breakers”), as well as a number of his efforts as a director (“As I Lay Dying,” “The Broken Tower,” “Sal”).

Perhaps the most notable inclusion is Franco’s Berlin and Sundance hit “INTERIOR. LEATHER BAR.,” which re-imagines the destroyed explicit scenes cut from William Friedkin’s controversial thriller “Cruising.” Friedkin’s film will appear in concurrence with Franco’s.

Also scheduled to appear is Gus Van Sant’s “My Own Private Idaho,” which influenced the included films “My Own Private River” and “Idaho,” and Franco’s short films and video projects. Go to the jump for the full schedule.

With umpteen showings of "Interior. Leather Bar," this should properly be titled the "Unconscionable Viewer Torture Film Festival." That movie exemplifies how embarrassingly bad, even amateurish work can get shown widely just because somebody famous made it. And where is "Child of God," the only GOOD movie he's directed so far?

Rachel

Wow. They really want people to watch Interior. Leather Bar

Me

This is so great! Such a talented artist with an amazing range of projects.

tis

Imagine the size of his ego now.

Wendy

The Dilettante Festival is it's proper name.

Tom

Wtf, IFC Center programmers. Way to enable Franco's continuing trolling of the world with a premature and undeserved retro of his disappointing directing career. Great actor, pedestrian filmmaker.

Franco's Own Film Festival = Makes Perfect Sense

That's totally awesome. Agree, with @MAX MILLER they should have included Child of God, plus James Dean and Pineapple Express.

Max Miller

I wonder why "Child of God" isn't a part of this?
