March 8th in LA: Animation Breakdown Roundup!

Los Angeles’ annual Animation Breakdown is staging its first all-original, “curated ‘n commissioned” shorts festival, scheduled for March 8th at The Cinefamily theatre in Hollywood.

“This is the premiere of what will be our recurring all original shorts festival, Animation Breakdown Roundup!,” says ABD founder/director Alex McDonald. Inspired by Spike & Mike’s Festival of Animation and past animated anthologies like The International Tournee and The Animation Show, the March 8th screening is a one-night celebration of the finest international, independent animation talents.
“(Co-curator) Kevin Sukho Lee and I set out about a year ago to build a highly curated anthology by reaching out directly to our very favorite animators, commissioning new work from whomever was able (such as Emily Hubley’s new film “Write Back”) and plucking new works from the rest. The result is 25 films, over 90 amazing minutes of animation filled with world premieres and exclusives. Among the amazing lineup of talent are new films from the likes of Kirsten Lepore, Emily Hubley, Takeshi Murata, Allison Schulnik, Caleb Wood, Charles Huettner, Alex Schubert, Galen Pehrson and many more.”
Animation Breakdown Roundup! will be accompanied, on Sunday March 9th, by a sister show — a Women in Animation’s Director’s Panel & Screening. “These two shows comprise a little ABD weekend which is meant to serve as somewhat of a teaser for the full scale festival, Animation Breakdown II, which will return in November after a two-year hiatus.”
