There's Still a Chance for You To Get Your Own David Cronenberg POD Implant: Here's What It Looks Like

Remember when we reported on “Body/Mind/Change,” the elaborate multi-media production with creative direction by Lance Weiler and starring David Cronenberg? Here’s a refresher: produced by the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Canadian Film Centre’s Media Lab (CFC Media Lab), “Body/Mind/Change” had Cronenberg partner with BMC Labs, a fictional biotech firm, to develop Personal-on-Demand (POD) biotech enhancement implants inspired by the intellectual property found in Cronenberg’s films, such as “Scanners,” “Videodrome” and “eXistenZ.” The project launched last fall at TIFF.

Cronenberg was the first participant in the project, which selected 1,466 hosts to receive their next
generation bio-tech recommendation engine implant, POD, a 3D-printed object. Only select participants who completed and mastered the three-part episodic narrative experience found at bodymindchange.ca received a POD. The digital extension to TIFF’s David Cronenberg: Evolution exhibition, which ended its run in Toronto last month, “Body/Mind/Change” has recently wrapped its 1st Wave POD Host training program and will announce its 2nd Wave call for hosts in late spring.

“‘Body/Mind/Change’ was a huge success,
attracting participants from around the world with Toronto, Moscow, London, Los
Angeles and New York as the top five cities with the largest number of POD
hosts, and extending the physical David Cronenberg exhibition to those who were
unable to visit TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto.  This was a big investment
on their parts as it required sustained interest in the episodic experience
amounting to over 60 minutes of active engagement in order to create their
customized POD,” said Ana Serrano, Canadian Film Centre’s Chief Digital Officer
and producer, “Body/Mind/Change.”

Below you can see a video of one of the first POD implantations, which took place at
the BMC Labs installation at TIFF Bell
Lightbox in Toronto as part of the David Cronenberg:  Evolution exhibition. Does it make you want a POD of your own?
