Tom Hardy To Play Twin Gangsters In ‘Legend’ From ‘L.A. Confidential’ Writer Brian Helgeland

Tom Hardy To Play Twin Gangsters In 'Legend' From 'L.A. Confidential' Writer Brian Helgeland

For a little while now, Tom Hardy has been attached to play “Capone” in the film set to be directed by David Yates. Plans were fairly ambitious, with talk of a trilogy at one time, but with the director now busy on “Tarzan” (sigh) it looks a long way off. But Hardy will get to scratch his gangster itch twice over.

The actor is in talks to play twin gangsters in the (tentatively titled) “Legend,” set to be directed by “L.A. Confidential” writer Brian Helgeland. Excited yet? The film will be based on the true story of Ronald and Reginald Kray, sibling toughs from the 1950s and 1960s who rubbed shoulders with celebrities while also taking part in murder, armed robbery, arson, racketeering, assault, and more. Basically, you didn’t want to end up on the bad side of these guys. Rival thugs, politicians and cops sworn to bring them down will all factor into the script, which sounds about right coming from Helgeland.

If this all seems vaguely familiar, perhaps you saw the 1990 feature “The Krays” starring Martin and Gary Kemp from Spandau Ballet. Or more likely, you didn’t. But this one is moving fast with production aiming to take place in the U.K. later this year. [ScreenDaily]

It seems to me that he passed on Black Mass, cause i read Joël Edgerton is attached to the role now . So i assume Tom's going for The Legend, which i love!!! I hope scheduling will succeed, cause Rocket man already starts in the autumn!

love this site/blog but i'll be damned if it isn't every other day you guys write confusing copy, deliberately misleading sentences, or downright sloppy and mistaken info. Curtis Hanson directed L.A. Confidential from a screenplay by Helgeland that nearly butchered James Ellroy amazing novel.

Thinking of the Krays, this is perfect casting! Tom I can already see as Ronnie (the slightly chubbier one on the left) who was paranoid schizophrenic and the 'dangerous' one with a hair trigger temper. Where as most people commented, Reggie would of probably led a different life if it wasn't for his twin's psychotic tendencies (though he could also be violent). Great dual role for Tom here!

For any Americans, to give you context, even thought the Krays were put in prison back in 1969, their still well known and viewed and held by Londoners as the seminal English Gangster.

I would love to see him in this 'Legend' project. Just curious of how he would portray those twins!

That's what i thought Cary and if i had to make a choice, i chose this one above, probably a little more interesting for an actor… Well, as long as Hardy is in it….

Does this mean that he passed on Depp's Black Mass? I doubt he'd do two mobster movies in a row.
