Production designer-turned-director Catherine Hardwicke hit ‘Twilight’ out of the park, but was not given time by Summit Entertainment to continue with the series. They rushed the second one into production with Chris Weitz at the helm, by far the worst of the series. Hardwicke’s follow-up “Red Riding Hood” was a misguided and undersupported effort, and now like many women helmers, Hardwicke has done the sane and rational thing–moved to television.
After directing various series including “Low Winter Sun” Hardwicke is partnering with Jason Blum to executive produce the series “Eye Candy,” which MTV has picked up for ten episodes from the pilot she directed, adapted by Emmy Grinwis from the R.L. Stine novel.
The series stars singer/actress Victoria Justice (TV’s “Victorious”) as a reclusive blogger and hacker who investigates terrorist plots and suspected killers and becomes the target of a dangerous cyberstalker–who might be one of the men she is dating via an online service.
Other executive producers are Yvonne Bernard and Beth Elise Hawk.
