Woody Allen Strikes Back: "Of Course I Did Not Molest Dylan"; Dylan Farrow Responds UPDATE

One week later after The New York Times published Dylan Farrow’s Open Letter in last Sunday’s NYT, the paper of record has published Woody Allen’s  response to his daughter. Well, we already knew the man can write. He repeats much of what his documentarian Robert Weide wrote in a widely circulated piece in The Daily Beast. But it’s in his own words. He starts off:

“TWENTY-ONE years ago, when I first heard Mia Farrow had accused me of child molestation, I found the idea so ludicrous I didn’t give it a second thought. We were involved in a terribly acrimonious breakup, with great enmity between us and a custody battle slowly gathering energy. The self-serving transparency of her malevolence seemed so obvious I didn’t even hire a lawyer to defend myself. It was my show business attorney who told me she was bringing the accusation to the police and I would need a criminal lawyer.”

I naïvely thought the accusation would be dismissed out of hand because of course, I hadn’t molested Dylan and any rational person would see the ploy for what it was. Common sense would prevail. After all, I was a 56-year-old man who had never before (or after) been accused of child molestation. I had been going out with Mia for 12 years and never in that time did she ever suggest to me anything resembling misconduct. Now, suddenly, when I had driven up to her house in Connecticut one afternoon to visit the kids for a few hours, when I would be on my raging adversary’s home turf, with half a dozen people present, when I was in the blissful early stages of a happy new relationship with the woman I’d go on to marry — that I would pick this moment in time to embark on a career as a child molester should seem to the most skeptical mind highly unlikely. The sheer illogic of such a crazy scenario seemed to me dispositive.

Notwithstanding, Mia insisted that I had abused Dylan and took her immediately to a doctor to be examined. Dylan told the doctor she had not been molested. Mia then took Dylan out for ice cream, and when she came back with her the child had changed her story. The police began their investigation; a possible indictment hung in the balance. I very willingly took a lie-detector test and of course passed because I had nothing to hide. I asked Mia to take one and she wouldn’t. Last week a woman named Stacey Nelkin, whom I had dated many years ago, came forward to the press to tell them that when Mia and I first had our custody battle 21 years ago, Mia had wanted her to testify that she had been underage when I was dating her, despite the fact this was untrue. Stacey refused. I include this anecdote so we all know what kind of character we are dealing with here. One can imagine in learning this why she wouldn’t take a lie-detector test.

And so on. UPDATE: And Dylan comes back with her response to Allen.

The saddest thing about this whole sordid business, as Allen points out, is the impact it has had on their children. And the impact it’s having now on Cate Blanchett, who wisely withdrew from some New York television interviews, partly out of grief for her friend Philip Seymour Hoffman, but also because the questions about the scandal would be inevitable. Her well-deserved Oscar should not be at stake.

M. Butterfly

I certainly do wish Dylan could heal without announcing it to the press.

A friend of mine used to work for Mia Farrow. From the stories I heard about Farrow's behaviour, she's a raving lunatic. Having no experience of Allen, I cannot say what kind of person he is, but I wouldn't believe a single word that comes out of Farrow's mouth.

Mia Farrow seems more and more like a crazy person to more I read about her.
I Believe In Woody Allen

Let's stipulate that child abuse is real and awful. But I have to say that this story just doesn't ad up me. Woody waits until he's in the middle of a bitter break up with Mia and then he goes to HER HOUSE where everyone is on red alert and that's where he decides to molest his daughter? It just sounds insane. There was no previous indication of molestation but Woody is such a perverted fool he decides to do it then and there? Why not wait till he has visitation? I don't buy it. It is clear and totally understandable that Mia was and is bitter about being left for Soon Yi. It is not nearly so obvious that Woody Allen is a child molester — a behavior that is known to be obsessive and serial — yet there is no indication of any other molestaiton of any Dylan or any other child. These kinds of accusations are very common in divorces and break ups. They give the accuser an advantage in a divorce or a custody dispute. I know a man whose children have been alienated from him since they were toddlers. There were no accusations of molestation but despite all his efforts to connect with his children they adopted their mothers hatred and he has little or no relationship with his now adult children. How would they know he's such a bad guy if they haven't spent time with him since they were toddlers? If a parent has the time and intense anger it is not difficult to indoctrinate a young child into adopting their bitterness or accusations. Again, child abuse is a hideous reality. So are manipulative, false accusations.

Allen, Farrow… the entire clan should be put on a raft and forced to float off into a vortex in the South Atlantic. Let them duke it out there. And throw in a tiger for good measure.

I'm also completely convinced based on the evidence (ie: Woody Allen being cleared of any abuse by Yale investigators in 1992, evidence of Dylan Farrow being coached, passing lie detector test, recent comments from Moses Farrow etc) that this entire issue was manufactured by Mia Farrow as a result of her rage over Allen leaving her for her adopted daughter, Soon Yi.

Cate Blanchett's "well-deserved Oscar should not be at stake" – Well, no s–t, really!? No other performance last year could even come close to CB, and if she's robbed come March 2nd, we'll all know why.

I believe Woody 100%. I'm also convinced Mia Farrow is a total psycho.

After reading this I read the opposing position that just at the same time was released by Maureen Orth. The facts stated in her list are more detailed in 33 page judge transcript she gives as a link. After reading about 25 pages I noticed a few things.

First off, there is an intense lack of objectivity and very much blushes for Mia. As well, the alleged behavior he showed to Dylan is not indisputable and really asks you to take her at her word. They're allegations that truly paint Allen thoroughly and help build up a proper warning sign before August 4th. As well, the actions taken by Allen in the allegation are the exact same listing of things that Dylan described in her open letter. Some chicken or the egg type shit right there.

My favorite part was the bringing up of Moses who supposedly wrote a note to Woody declaring that he hated him, which Woody thought was made by Mia, which Moses denied. The fact that Moses is speaking out now about the "brainwashing" he endured during that time is just a tad telling to me as to the full reliability of the allegations.

It doesn't help that there's not talk of the nanny who came forward against Mia, and that there were even claims that Dylan never had her pants down. It just all smells like shit. Oh and where did Maureen get that data regarding Mia never even being asked to take a lie detector test?

Woody is a great wired for a pedophile…

That ice cream must have been fantastic for her to still be repeating the story twenty years later.
