LA non-profit Women in Film, which is committed to galvanizing support and visibility for women in the entertainment industry, has unveiled the 2014 Crystal + Lucy Awards winners. Honors will be given at a benefit gala on June 11 at the Hyatt Regency in Los Angeles.
Women in Film president Cathy Schulman announced the following winners:
2014 Crystal Award for Excellence in Film: Cate Blanchett
2014 Lucy Award for Excellence in Television: Kerry Washington
The Women in Film Max Mara “Face of the Future” 2014: Rose Byrne
2014 Dorothy Arzner Directors Award: Jennifer Lee
2014 Norma Zarky Humanitarian Award: Eva Longoria
From movies to TV, these women have all enjoyed a banner years recently. Cate Blanchett, of course, won the Best Actress Oscar for “Blue Jasmine,” while “Frozen” (currently coasting on a box office milestone) co-writer/director Jennifer Lee shared the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature with Chris Buck and Peter Del Vecho.
2013 Emmy nominee and Vanity Fair cover girl Kerry Washington is still picking up raves for “Scandal,” while former “Damages” star Rose Byrne is making a name for herself in indie film (“I Give it a Year”), with raucous Seth Rogen comedy “Neighbors” coming up, and the mainstream (“Insidious”). TV favorite Eva Longoria has turned her career toward philanthropy.
Last year’s Crystal + Lucy winners included Laura Linney and Sofia Coppola. In years’ past, Women in Film has honored many significant women in entertainment, from Lucille Ball — the Lucy Award’s namesake — to Meryl Streep and Annette Bening.
