Charlie Kaufman's FX Comedy Pilot 'How and Why' Adds Catherine Keener and Sally Hawkins

One of independent film’s queens is lending herself to the small screen. Catherine Keener has signed to appear in Charlie Kaufman’s FX comedy pilot ‘”How and Why” along with recent Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (“Blue Jasmine”). If the anticipated series is picked up — and knowing FX’s track record with “auteurs” it should be — Keener would be a guest star while Hawkins would become a series regular. They join Michael Cera and John Hawkes to form a truly formidable set of stars.

The single camera comedy is set to to begin shooting in April with Kaufman attached to direct. The series focuses on a man who understands how to run a nuclear reactor but is less of an expert on life in general. Keener has worked with Kaufman before in the films “Being John Malkovich” and “Synecdoche, New York,” the former for which she received an Oscar nomination. Hot off her own Academy Award nod for “Blue Jasmine,” Hawkins will appear in the upcoming “Godzilla” reboot as well as two other films scheduled for 2014.

I'd sure like to see it. With those actresses and Kaufman, it should be very good.
