Kevin Hart to Launch 24-Hour Digital Comedy Network

Comedian Kevin Hart is reportedly heading into the digital space with a new 24-hour comedy network, to launch later this year.

According to Humor Mill, the as-yet-untitled digital network will cater to an urban audience and could feature sketches, skits, stand up, and behind-the-scenes movie footage.

The new platform will no doubt be a competitor to projects like Russell Simmons’ All Def Digital and Marlon Wayans’ What The Funny, but is unique in its round-the-clock format.

No word yet on the exact programming slate, but stay posted as we hear more.

I don't know if the major media conglomerates will buy up African-American owned Networks. The reality is that the Hispanic population is the largest demographic and they will most likely be interesting in buying Spanish language and Hispanic targeted Television Networks because it makes better business sense. Plus with the media and Television becoming more fragmented. Kevin Hart could cater to a urban audience that prefers that type of comedy.

On November 15, 1989, Time Warner, owners of HBO, launched The Comedy Channel as the first cable channel devoted exclusively to comedy-based programming. On April 1, 1990, Viacom (who owned MTV, VH1, and Nickelodeon) launched a rival channel called Ha! that featured reruns of situation comedies and some original sketch comedy.

After two years of limited distribution, the two channels merged into one, relaunching on April 1, 1991 later that year calling itself COMEDY CENTRAL.

I predict (hope) this will happen with all these black comedy networks. #UnitedWeStand

An "urban audience." Does that mean that folks who live in the suburbs or rural areas aren't the intended audience?

P.S.

I hate that horrible euphemism.
