Ridley Scott’s 2016 Mystery Project Is Revealed As ‘Prometheus 2’

Well, that didn’t last too long. Last week 20th Century Fox announced a rash of future dates going as far as 2018. The big eye-grabber was a trio of super hero films, “The Wolverine 2,” a sequel to “The Fantastic Four” even with the first movie yet to start shooting and an Untitled Marvel Mystery movie for summer 2018, which has still not been revealed.

Only a few steps behind in the curiosity factor was an unnamed project for March 2016. Fans asked: what could it be? “Blade Runner 2”? No, that’s at Alcon/Warner Brothers and not at Fox, so it’s out. “The Forever War” maybe? Something else? As we surmised, carving out dates that far in advance had to be for something big and our guess was “Prometheus 2." And evidently that’s right on the money.

Scott’s project is a mystery no longer and confirmed to be the sequel to his “Alien” prequel from 2012 starring Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. “Prometheus 2,” or whatever it will eventually be called, has also hired a new writer and apparently one that Scott likes. That would be Michael Green, who wrote the “Green Lantern” but was also hired to write Scott’s “Blade Runner” prequel/sequel/whatever it is in early 2013, so clearly he’s still in the director’s good graces (which does bode well for the “Blade Runner” sequel). He’s been tasked to rewrite the first draft of “Prometheus 2” penned by Jack Paglen (“Transcendence”).

Production is supposed to begin this fall according to The Wrap, after Scott is done with his Moses film “Exodus” starring Christian Bale which is due in theaters in December. The publication also reports that the film may feature “multiple Davids” the android character played by Michael Fassbender. “Prometheus 2” will star Rapace and Fassbender and no one in the original cast for reasons that should be spoilerishly obvious.

So glad Prometheus 2 is happening. It's one of my favorite sci-fi movies of the last decade. It's like Blade Runner in that it gets better with repeated viewings. I own the Blu-ray and have watched it at least 5 times. Yea some of the character motivation is a bit wonky, but in the age of comic book movies, it serves up a more heady sci-fi adventure….. now if Ridley and co take a look at the recent "Under the Skin" directed by Jonathan Glazer, and borrow a little from this experience I'll be a happy man.

I just hope this script will be better than first Prometeus , free from mistakes we saw in first part . I still think that we should see Ellen Ripley again , what she did after she came back to Earth . Personally i think it wouldn't be bad idea to send Ripley back to space to Aliens planet where instead of killing Aliens , what she always did she would be part of them . She could understand them And perhaps even protect them . Anyway all they wanted was always only to survive so …….why not ???? Movies about Aliens without Ellen aren't the same And Real fans know that Mr. Scott !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prometheus 2: Crash and Burn Further.

Awesome news.

Hahaha! Definitely a Brit. Must be Harry… or James. Could be Scalv. Or psy… so many names, so little time. It' fun anyhow. Must look weird from the outside of Prometheus' board though.

I'm intrigued by multiple Davids, one can never get enough of Fassbender. I'm getting my hopes up for the sequel.

Good one guy(s)!

I'm guessing a Brit, been on the boards as long as me and is a fellow hater.

Scalv due to the Me_Am account being the first comment I recognise would be my guess. Or a couple of people playing off each other.

You missed out SmokedToDust, RainofWalrus, Galahad, Cattle_Bruiser and SSD though (To name just a few)

Helmate; that takes me back!

Great jorb!!

Gawd, as if once wasn't enough.

Well, will seed for a week.

Who is faking all these comments?

Harry? James? Scalvador?

Elijah Sullivan

Won't they need an android with an E in its name?

Maybe the Engineers are androids!?!?

Here they all are like lemmings to the cliff.

Edward Bernays would be so proud.

So Ridders is coming back to the plate. I'll be speaking my mind next time I see him.

I am prepared to answer any questions you have about the story of Prometheus.

I am polite these days and so shall not gloat nor dither those who are not fond of Prometheus.

But I did tell them so once.

Sir Ridley Scott

Group testing has been effective so far. Time will show that my movies are works which will stand alone.

Has all of imdb came here to poke fun?

Where are your gods now?!

*Eats pancakes*

Watch Ridley Win!

You're all mad!

Prometheus too will be as stupid and insipid as the dishwater that the first one was.

I'll have to get into about 15 other genres of music just to make up songs about it.

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner, that I lurve London town.

No wait.

My old man's a dustman, her wears a dustman's cap. He wears cor blimey trousers and he lives in a council flat!

OMG, I'm off to rub my helmate!!!

Multiple David's would mean the many facets of Alchemy all coming together into one singularity. Ridley you old dog, why not just make a film about it openly?!

Well that escalated quickly!

But did Prometheus ask questions?

Hater pricks will be proven wrong (Again!)

The majesty of Prometheus will engulf minds again in ways too abstract to articulate.

Once again we will see the wonderful depth of intrigue Prometheus offered and once again maggots will fail to understand how deep it goes.

…I got a feeling recently that R.S. just takes any script in sight and adds a spectacular imagery to it. Whether the script is good or not, it doesn't matter to him because the movie always looks great. I couldn't stand monologues in "The Counselor" and I felt betrayed by "Prometheus". Also I think that the great success of "Alien" were the actors – the cast was very small and carefully chosen. In that case I think Prometheus 2 would work the best if it was only Michael and Noomi against an evil engineer and malicious computer : )…

The statement that the writer of Green Lantern is a good writer is clearly wrong.

I enjoyed Prometheus, so this is good news. I can't wait to see how they fill out the story of the Engineers.

Great! One of the dumbest, most incoherent, logic defying movies EVER, gets a sequel. The first one was such a disappointment, i have a hard time generating any enthusiasm for the prequel sequel. The whole "Alien" franchise has fallen so far.

Webster Skyhorse

Scott needs to admit, like Tim Burton, that he wouldn't know a good script if it bit him in the face. If he wants bold, boundary-pushing storytelling to support his sumptuous visuals, he needs to stop going with indentured in-house writers. Get a bona fide pro like Clair Noto or Towne. He can afford it.

"Prometheus" was so visually majestic at the outset that it seemed to promise a genuinely fresh vision. Then those goopy, toothy monsters from "Alien" showed up, and the entire project instantly crashed in flames. Please, Ceiling Cat, don't let it happen again.

Prometheus was visually stunning but bereft of any kind of logic, coherence, and intelligence. while mostly the fault of that guy who wrote Lost, scott is not without blame. as a director of some amazing films, he should know what makes a story good and how to tell it. Prometheus only delivered on one front: visuals. and now the sequel is being written by the writer of Green Lantern and Smallville episodes? this does not bode well at all.

I'm not sure why I'm excited about this, but I am. I guess I'm still hoping for some answers?

And the possibility of multiple Davids makes me happy, a movie with a lot of Michael Fassbenders? Sign me up.

That Kid

The more I watched it the more I've come to like "Prometheus". There's still several issues with it but it's starting to find its audience, like "The Fountain".

So excited for this! Loved Prometheus.

You guys need to rewrite this article — it's a mess. "Prometheus over grossed $400 million…"

Sea Gourmet Winner

Probably in the minority but I LOVED Prometheus so this is exciting.

quelle surprise!

Not sure why I'm so excited for this, but I am.
