WATCH: Terrifying International 'Godzilla' Trailer
Hollywood has always taken its pick of gifted young filmmakers to helm big-budget actioners. Sometimes it works–Christopher Nolan went from “Insomnia” to “Batman Begins,” and the rest is history–and sometimes it doesn’t, as “47 Ronin” attests.
We will see how Legendary’s hire of Brit VFX whiz Gareth Edwards (micro-budget “Monsters”) to reboot “Godzilla” works out. Clearly, this is going to be one epic monster movie.
“Now I have become death, the destroyer of worlds,” intoned the voiceover on Comic-Con snippets of monstrous destructive dust-spewing footage. “It’s very grounded and realistic,” Edwards told Hall H. “What would it be like if this all really happened?”
The new international trailer below, which puts “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston
front and center, is terrifying.
Principal photography began March 18, 2013 (after long advance VFX prep) in Vancouver on Warner Bros./Legendary behemoth “Godzilla” with an all-star global cast: Cranston plays the stepfather of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Elizabeth Olsen (in her first big-studio production) is his girlfriend. They star alongside Ken Watanabe–warning that we can’t control Mother Nature–David Straithairn and Juliette Binoche (who just turned 50!). Of course the humans will be dwarfed by their super-size adversary.
While movie fans the world over are all-too familiar with Godzilla, the star of more than 25 films, plus TV shows, books, and video games, something tells me that Mother Nature run amuck will hit the zeitgeist just right when the latest iteration hits stateside on May 16, 2014.
