2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Drama Supporting Actor

2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Drama Supporting Actor

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions through August 25th, when the winners will be announced.

Is this Aaron Paul’s trophy to lose? It’s certainly hard to imagine the Television Academy not honoring the “Breaking Bad” star in his final season, partly because he’s just so damn likable and partly because he simply deserves it. Still, it’s also Josh Charles’ last season on “The Good Wife” and after its Drama Series snub, voters could look to make up for it somewhere else. Or Peter Dinklage could take the trophy as the stand-out actor of the most nominated show. The rest of the crew would need a bit of luck to win, but that doesn’t make the race any less exciting.

Below are predictions for best drama supporting actor from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and TV Editor Ben Travers. Check out predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Jim Carter, “Downton Abbey”
Josh Charles, “The Good Wife”

Peter Dinklage, “Game of Thrones”
Mandy Patinkin, “Homeland”
Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”
Jon Voight – “Ray Donovan”

Ben’s predictions:
Will win: Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”
Could win: Josh Charles, “The Good Wife”
Should win: Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”
Shoulda been here: John Slattery, “Mad Men”

Peter’s predictions:
Will win:  Josh Charles, “The Good Wife”
Could win: Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”
Should win: Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad”
Shoulda been here: Peter Sarsgaard, “The Killing”

No way should Aaron Paul lose this

Aaron Paul and Peter Dinklage both deserve the Emmy, but I hope the latter wins. He is easily the best actor on Game of Thrones (which is saying something, since they're all amazing) and his work this particular season has just been absolutely incredible.

I'ts really between Aaron Paul and Peter Dinklage. I loved both of them this year! They both had arguably their best performances so far. I'm rooting for Dinklage though, in my opinion, I think he had a more memorable performance this season.

1) Aaron paul
2) Dean noris

My predictions for the nominations (in no particular order):
Josh Charles, The Good Wife
Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
Dean Norris, Breaking Bad
Mandy Patinkin, Homeland
Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
Jeffrey Wright, Boardwalk Empire

Who will win: Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones)
Who could win: Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad)
Who should win: Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones)
Who should be here: Peter Sarsgaard (The Killing) and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones)

In a perfect World Henry Czerny (Revenge) for season 3 episode 21 "Impetus" he was amazing. However he will never get a nomination!

Philippe's predictions:
1. Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad
2. Peter Dinklage, Game of Thrones
3. Mandy Patinkin, Homeland
4. Peter Sarsgaard, The Killing
5. Rupert Friend- Homeland
6. Beau Bridges- Masters of Sex

Jon Voight, Ray Donovan

In a Perfect World
Dean Norris, Breaking Bad

Jon Voight must won it !! Also Aaron Paul is awesome

If Peter Sarsgaard isn't even nominated I will start a riot. He was phenomenal on The Killing and months later I am STILL haunted by his performance in the episode "Six Minutes".

What about the Ray Donovan series; that guy Johnathon Schaech played a hell of a good role of Sean Walker! Outstanding in this role and his chemistry with John Voight in his character was always moving with either laughter or sadness. Schaech should definitely get a nomination for his work.

Where in the heck is Joe Morton – Rowan on Scandal. He is a beast and gave great performances. "To be clear – I am the hell AND the high water"!

The Great Alex

Charles Dance's work in Game Of Thrones > Anyone not in Game Of Thrones or Breaking Bad

Peter Dinklage should be the front runner for this award. His acting at Tyrion's trial surpasses the work he did that won him the award three years ago. I think only Aaron Paul stands the chance of beating him.

I would trip out if both Dean Norris and Betsy Brandit got a nomination. That would be awsome.

I really really really hope Dean Norris gets a nomination for BB. <3 Hank

Ah shoot, I'd forfeit my entire dream ballot for the pleasure of Mads Mikkelsen getting an Emmy nom for Hannibal. It would be exquisite.

I had completely forgotten that Peter Sarsgaard was eligible this year! He absolutely deserves a nom, and here as well I'd be more than pleased to see the Downton Abbey lot excluded.

My dream nominations:
Josh Charles
Aaron Paul
Mandy Patinkin
Peter Dinklage
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Peter Sarsgaard

Kevin Klawitter

In a perfect world: Laurence Fishburne for Hannibal

Thank you for mentioning Peter Sarsgaard. He's by far the best supporting actor in a drama this year!

Jon Voight has to take it.
