2014 Emmy Predictions: Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress

2014 Emmy Predictions: Best TV Movie/Miniseries Actress

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions through August 25th, when the winners will be announced.

Kristen Wiig! The “Bridesmaids” and “SNL” veteran — who’s been nominated seven times now without a win — snuck into a category heavy on the drama. Whether or not she could sneak out with her first trophy may be a bit more difficult considering the Academy’s preference for drama over comedy. Plus, Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson were quite the force together on “American Horror Story: Coven,” and Minnie Driver reached some dark depths as the mother of a stillborn child in “Return to Zero.” Veteran thespian Cicely Tyson remains a top contender as well — this being her 10th nomination, she’ll look to add a third Emmy to her mantle come August.

Below are predictions for best TV movie/miniseries actress from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and Assistant TV Editor Ben Travers. Check out predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Helena Bonham Carter, “Burton and Taylor”
Minnie Driver, “Return to Zero”
Jessica Lange, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Sarah Paulson, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Cicely Tyson, “The Trip to Bountiful”
Kristen Wiig, “Spoils of Babylon”

Ben’s predictions:
Will win: Cicely Tyson, “The Trip to Bountiful”
Could win: Sarah Paulson, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Should win: Kristen Wiig, “Spoils of Babylon”
Shoulda been here: Toni Collette, “Hostages”

Peter’s predictions:
Will win: Sarah Paulson, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Could win: Cicely Tyson, “The Trip to Bountiful”
Should win: Sarah Paulson, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Shoulda been here: Abstain

I think Jessica Lange should win. She has had an amazing year on AHS: Coven and he certainly did a better job than Sarah Paulson. I don't know if she'll get the Emmy. Maybe they'll give it to her next year because it will be her last season on American Horror Story.

in a perfect world Gina Gershon for House of Versace? Maybe in a camp world, though I guess a camp world may be close to perfection.

Her name is Allison Tolman. Molly Solverson is her character. Come on, guys.

While I too enjoyed Anderson's work in The Fall, I believe it is ineligible as it came out in its entirety on 5/28/13 and the eligibility period runs for shows primarily appearing from 6/1/13 to 5/31/14.

check out minnie driver in "return to zero." (indie acquisition by lifetime.) gaining ground.

Julia Roberts is winning Supporting Actress. She's not the lead, therefore Cicely Tyson is winning here.

In what universe would anyone from Derek being nominated be in a perfect world? Should not be nominated for anything at all. Complete drivel

I have to disagree on both Ben and Peters predictions for this years Primetime Emmys,
it is going to be Julia Roberts for the normal heart. In the actor category it will be Mark Raffalo
for the normal heart. Those are the two who will win, the rest of the actors don't win

Molly. Solverson. ?

Jessica Lange has been playing the same character for three seasons of AHS. The writers have scripted her into a cage.
