One of a handful of new TV projects featuring black actors in starring or at least prominent roles, that will debut next season, Zoe Saldana stars in the upcoming NBC 4-hour miniseries Rosemary’s Baby – a remake of Ira Levin‘s 1967 best-selling suspense novel Rosemary’s Baby.
Saldana plays Rosemary, a young wife who moves into a Paris apartment with her husband – an apartment with a darkly storied past. Soon after becoming pregnant, Rosemary becomes increasingly suspicious that both her husband and their mysterious neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.
The famous novel was first adapted to the screen in Roman Polanski‘s 1968 film of the same name, which starred Mia Farrow as the title character.
Acclaimed director Agnieszka Holland (Europa, Europa, Treme) directed the project from a script penned by Scott Abbott (Introducing Dorothy Dandridge) and James Wong (American Horror Story).
NBC has debut a new teaser giving us our first look at footage from the upcoming mini-series.
Zoe Saldana has risen to become one of Hollywood’s top leading ladies in recent years since her co-starring turn in the biggest box-office hit of all time Avatar. She recently appeared in the Christian Bale drama Out of the Furnace. Her upcoming projects include Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Blood Ties and in the highly anticipated upcoming Nina Simone biopic as Simone herself. She’s also co-starring in Don Cheadle‘s long-in-development Miles Davis project. And last year, Zoe and sister Cicely Saldana inked a first-look deal (via their production company Saldana Productions) with Lionsgate studios.
This Rosemary’s Baby miniseries is just another high-profile project for her to add to her blossoming resume.
