OddLot Taps 'Obvious Child' Writer/Director Gillian Robespierre for Untitled Divorce Comedy

Gillian Robespierre’s achingly hilarious debut “Obvious Child” hasn’t hit theaters yet, but she already has a new film in the works.

OddLot Entertainment has acquired her yet-to-be-written followup, an untitled divorce comedy centered on three women in New York City. Robespierre will cowrite the film with “Obvious Child” producer and script collaborator Elisabeth Holm, who will co-produce with OddLot’s Gigi Pritzker (“Drive,” “Draft Day”).

An SVA grad and New Yorker, Robespierre adapted “Obvious Child” from her own short film. Starring former SNL personality Jenny Slate as an unlucky-in-love comedienne who considers an abortion after a messy one-night-stand, the edgy rom-com was a breakout at Sundance and SXSW.

“Obvious Child” hits theaters via A24 on June 6. Here’s our review. Watch the trailer here.

"…an abortion after a messy one-night-stand"? Did we see the same film?

She had a messy break-up with her former boyfriend (she got drunk, did drunk dialing and stalked him), but had a whole lotta fun with the guy she knocked boots with. She caused a "mess" when announced her abortion in her a comedy routine.
