Coming back to a new, and no doubt to be much talked
about, documentary which Tambay profiled back in January (HERE) by London based filmmaker Toyin Agbetu – Beauty
Is…, which: “explores the topic of beauty from a Pan African perspective through a
collection of candid personal and group interviews, touching on touchy issues
like hair, skin, body image, relationships and character,” will finally have its first public screening.
No doubt the film deals with an always controversial subject, but is now perfectly timed, considering the recent buzz about
Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o, and especially recent criticisms by her and others about that (obviously self hating) Nigerian and
Cameroonian singer Dancia, who’s been
promoting her skin whitening cream called Whitenicious.
Now Beauty Is… will make its official premiere in London
on Saturday April 19th at
the BFI Southbank, from 12 Noon to 2:30PM.
The London premiere
screening will be followed by other screenings and discussions set to take place at other U.K. locations throughout April into May.
The BFI screening will be followed by a Q and A with the
filmmaker himself. To reserve your seat for the screening event and the
other upcoming U.K. screenings, go right HERE.
