“Drip”

Tweetable Logline: A documentary that looks at the amazing world of coffee competitions and the renowned baristas who compete in them

Elevator Pitch: Jiro Dreams of Sushi meets Spellbound + Coffee!

In 2013, we followed some of the rising stars in the coffee world as they were getting ready for the Regional, National, and World Barista Championships. These competitions allowed baristas to showcase their technical skills and creativity as they prepared 12 cups of coffee through 15 minute demonstrations. While this started as a journey for a love of coffee it soon became a fascinating story about the people who dedicated their lives trying to push the limits of a single beverage.

Production Team:

Charles Babinski (of GO GET EM TIGER and G&B)
Truman Severson (of PORTOLA COFFEE LAB)
Ryan Redden (of PORTOLA COFFEE LAB)
Edem-Marie Abramowicz (of INTELLIGENTSIA)

Rock Baijnauth (Director) – A writer, director, and producer. Previously produced and directed the 2011 Somali pirate documentary, THE PIRATE TAPES.

Christopher Kao (Executive Producer) – A producer who has created digital multimedia content for many studios including Universal Pictures and Lionsgate.

Jimmy Nguyen (Producer) – Executive Producer on the upcoming television documentary, SHOWRUNNERS.

About the Production: After Rock’s first documentary, THE PIRATE TAPES, he was anxious to get to work on another one, something a little more personal and a whole lot less dangerous. We had just seen docs like Indie Game: The Movie and Shut Up and Play The Hits. We were fascinated with their tone and how they each created this rich, sensory experience in the narrative. So when we accidentally discovered the world of barista competitions (while trying to tell the origin story of specialty coffee in LA), we knew we wanted take our audience through a sensory experience as well.

Current Status: Filming is 90% Complete. Fundraising to finish and post (edit, color correct, score, sound design, etc. ) the film. 11 days left on KS
