2014 Emmy Predictions: Best TV Movie/Miniseries Supporting Actor

2014 Emmy Predictions: Best TV Movie/Miniseries Supporting Actor

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions through August 25th, when the winners will be announced.

Ten years ago, four of five nominations in this category went to "Angels in America," a historical AIDS drama set in New York and made for HBO. This year, four of the six nominations have gone to another HBO historical AIDS drama set in New York, with "The Normal Heart" racking up the nods along with strong contenders from "Sherlock" and "Fargo" in Martin Freeman (a dual nominee this year) and Colin Hanks, respectively. It’s been looking like Bomer’s year for some time now — ever since we first saw his dramatic weight loss — but anything could still happen.

Below are predictions for best TV movie/miniseries supporting actor from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and Assistant TV Editor Ben Travers. Check out predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Matt Bomer, "The Normal Heart"
Martin Freeman, "Sherlock: His Last Vow"
Colin Hanks, "Fargo"
Joe Mantello, "The Normal Heart"
Alfred Molina, "The Normal Heart"
Jim Parsons, "The Normal Heart"

Ben’s predictions:
Will win: Matt Bomer, "The Normal Heart"
Could win: Martin Freeman, "Sherlock: His Last Vow"
Should win: Matt Bomer, "The Normal Heart"
Shoulda been here: Bob Odenkirk, "Fargo"

Peter’s predictions:
Will win: Matt Bomer, "The Normal Heart"
Could win: Martin Freeman, "Sherlock: His Last Vow" (but this has GOT to Bomer’s)
Should win: Colin Hanks, "Fargo"
Shoulda been here: Bob Odenkirk, "Fargo"

I think Matt Bomer should get an Emmy for The Normal Heart for his body transformation and his great acting!

Do we know yet if Martin Freeman is submitting himself as Lead or Supporting for Fargo? It's probably safe to assume he will submit as Supporting again for Sherlock.

Matt Bomer all the way, he is such a talented actor, he should be offered move movie roles.
I have seen the previews/ trailers and I look forward to watching the movie and I know
I will end up crying.

Can someone please tell me what was so great about "Dancing On The Edge"?? It was boring as hell.

Matt Bomer! It's about time his talents and dedication to his work finally gets the recognition it rightfully deserves.

I am pulling for Matt Bomer in this category. Even though I haven't seen the Normal Heart yet, I'd really like for him to be taken more seriously as an actor and not just a pretty face. The Emmy for this role would establish that credibility for him.
