2014 Emmy Predictions: Best TV Movie/Miniseries Supporting Actress

2014 Emmy Predictions: Best TV Movie/Miniseries Supporting Actress

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions through August 25th, when the winners will be announced.

Well, we got our answer to “how many ‘American Horror Story’ cast members can make it into the race?’ A lot. Their dominance of half the category makes the race quite interesting — not necessarily because they’ll win, but because their overwhelming presence gives the show more weight. Julia Roberts had the early edge and remains a top contender after nominations day. Can the previously unknown Allison Tolman ride a wave of “Fargo” love to a win over the Oscar-winning A-lister? All of the above makes this usually dull category spark with life in 2014.

Below are predictions for best TV movie/miniseries supporting actress from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and Assistant TV Editor Ben Travers. Check out predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Angela Basset, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Kathy Bates, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Ellen Burstyn, “Flowers in the Attic”
Francis Conroy, “American Horror Story: Coven”
Julia Roberts, “The Normal Heart”
Allison Tolman, “Fargo”

Ben’s predictions:
Will win: Julia Roberts, “The Normal Heart”
Could win: Allison Tolman, “Fargo”
Should win: Ellen Burstyn, “Flowers in the Attic”
Shoulda been here: Janet McTeer, “The White Queen”

Peter’s predictions:
Will win: Julia Roberts, “The Normal Heart”
Could win: Ellen Burstyn, “Flowers in the Attic”
Should win: Allison Tolman, “Fargo”
Shoulda been here: Jacqueline Bissett, “Dancing On The Edge”

Allison Tolman should win. Incredible breakout performance of the year in my opinion. All of these women are great, but I thought she as outstanding.

Kathy Bates should definitely win.

yep, it would be a fair and almost perfect world if Melissa Leo was recognised for Treme. It would be a perfect world if the show itself and rest of the cast got a look in too, the fact that this hasn't and won't happen kind of pisses on the whole thing.

Kate walsh (fargo) could get an indication in this category, or only as a guest actress in a drama series??

In a disappointing season of "American Horror Story," only Angela Bassett and Frances Conroy really stood out, as far as I'm concerned.

Kathy Bates already…

I think Emma Roberts from American Horror Story ought to be in here somewhere.
