Antoine Fuqua has been tapped by Fox to direct a thriller titled Narco Sub, from a script penned by David Guggenheim.
Plot details aren’t public yet, but, according to Deadline, Narco Sub is set in the dangerous world of drug smuggling; The title, narco-sub or narco-submarine, refers to a type of custom-made ocean-going self-propelled submersible vessel built by drug traffickers outside the USA to smuggle drugs into the USA.
Ridley Scott’s Scott Free shingle will produce, alongside Genre Films’s Simon Kinberg, who also revised the script along with Anthony Peckham.
Elishia Holmes and Aditya Sood will exec produce.
Fuqua should be very comfortable here. It sounds like the kind of likely gritty, hard-nosed, adult project that he’s come to be known for.
Fuqua’s next – The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington and Chloë Grace Moretz, which marks the first re-teaming of Washington and director since Training Day– is set for a September 26 release.
He’ll also be directing Forest Whitaker and Jake Gyllenhaal in theboxing drama Southpaw.
Oh, and by the way, Fuqua also reportedly has offers from MGM to direct the remake of The Magnificent Seven (the 1960 American western directed by John Sturges, which was itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai), and from Sony who wants him to return for a sequel to The Equalizer, in what the studio likely hopes will be a film franchise for star Denzel Washington.
