Cannes: Focus Features Acquires Rights to Dark Thriller 'The Forest'

Earlier today, Focus Features announced that they have acquired the North American distribution rights for “The Forest,” a supernatural thriller directed by Jason Zada, the inventor of the holiday campaign “Elf Yourself.”

The film, based on an original idea by renowned screenwriter David S. Goyer, is about a woman who ventures into the Aokigahara Forest in Japan, a place known for being where people go to end their lives, to search for her missing twin sister.

“’The Forest’ will be a cinematic journey to a dark and terrifying place and I’m happy to be on that journey with Jason Zada, David Goyer, David Linde, and Tory Metzger,” Focus Features CEO Peter Schlessel said. “The supernatural scares of the ‘The Forest’ will be something that will genuinely thrill audiences.”

Focus Features will also be distributing Zach Braff’s latest effort, “Wish I Was Here.”
