Coming to Cannes From Wild Bunch: 'Spring Breakers 2' and Gaspar Noe's Sex Celebration 'Love'

Heads will turn.

Wild Bunch just announced their slate of films in the works for the Cannes marketplace, a portion of the Cannes Film Festival where producers, distributors and investors can take a peek at potential projects. Wild Bunch is packing new intense pieces including Paul Verhoeven’s revenge thriller, a “Maniac Cop” remake, Gaspar Noe’s latest, and the “Spring Breakers” sort-of sequel. We’ll break it down for you:

“Spring Breakers 2: The Second Coming”: It sounds like a horror movie, but let’s be honest: you really don’t know what to expect. Wild Bunch co-chief Vincent Maraval told ScreenDaily, “It’s not a direct sequel although there are allusions to some of the characters in the original,” plus a mix of old and new cast members. What we do know is a team of bikini babes will do battle with a militant Christian converting sect, and “Filth” writer Irvine Welsh is on board. Also, Jonus Akerlund (“Spun,” “Small Apartments”) will direct.

Gaspar Noé’s “Love”: This story about a boy, a girl, and another girl, will be his first feature since “Enter The Void” in 2009. According to Maraval, “Love” “celebrates sex in a joyous way…. [Gaspard] says it’s a film that will give guys a hard-on and make girls cry.”

Abdellatif Kechiche’s “The Real Wound”: In keeping with a pretty predominant sex celebrating theme, this loose adaption of French novel “La Blessure, La Vraie” is about a teen boy’s bid to lose his virginity on holiday in Tunisia. Kechiche is the recent winner of the Palme d’Or. Last year’s recipient? “Blue is the Warmest Color.”

Paul Verhoeven’s Feature. The yet-to-be-titled project is an adaption of Philippe Dijan’s 2012 Novel “Oh!” about a rape victim seeking revenge. Maraval calls it “pure Verhoeven, extremely erotic and perverted.” This might be why casting is still being finalized, as an actress is needed who’s “prepare to take that on.”

“Maniac Cop”: The 80’s cult classic, is getting a remake. The original’s director William Lustig is on board as producer, and the director will be announced at Cannes.

Other features in the mix include Arnaud Desplechin’s “Three Memories of Childhood, Abel Ferrara’s “Welcome to New York,” “Blood Father,” featuring Mel Gibson as a former drug addict and convict, and more
