Dolly Parton: “I am not gay, but if I were I would be the first one running out of the closet.”

Dolly Parton: "I am not gay, but if I were I would be the first one running out of the closet."

Dolly Parton gave us a few more reasons to love her in an adorable interview with Between The Lines magazine, talking about everything from the consistent lesbian rumors (specifically to longtime BFF Judy) to standing up for LGBT rights in the country music world to what her drag name would be (P. Titty!), as long as she wasn’t entering Dolly Parton lookalike contests…

“I entered one of the Dolly look-alike contests down on Santa Monica at one of the gay clubs down there – I lived right up the street – so I just kind of over exaggerated myself and went and joined the party and walked across the stage,” she said. “I got less applause than anybody. It’s pretty bad when I lose a Dolly Parton look-alike contest!”

It’s a candid and thoughtful interview all around that we suggest you should read right now.
