Emma Stone Will Star Opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Woody Allen's Next Film

Emma Stone, who stars in Woody Allen’s upcoming feature “Magic in the Moonlight,” is also now signed on to star in the prolific director’s next film, opposite Joaquin Phoenix.

It’s all very secretive at the moment — with no title or plot details to speak of — but the film is eyeing a July production start. No distributor yet, but no doubt Allen’s go-to Sony Pictures Classics will step up to the plate.

Despite Allen being at the center of a sex abuse accusation maelstrom earlier this year, his popularity hasn’t seemed to fade with moviegoing fans, as exemplified by the arthouse box office success of John Turturro’s comedy “Fading Gigolo,” which co-starred Allen as a pimp. (And nothing could deter Cate Blanchett from winning her Oscar in March for Allen’s “Blue Jasmine.”)

This is the first time Phoenix will work with the 78-year-old director. Meanwhile, is Stone Allen’s new Scarlett Johansson? He likes to find a vivacious muse and work with her repeatedly. (Stone just showed off her acting chops, which recall some of the grand dames of classic screwball comedy, in this past weekend’s box office winner “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”)

“Magic in the Moonlight” hits theaters July 25.

And as far as we are concerned, Stone and beau Andrew Garfield won the Met Gala red carpet fashion wars hands down.

Are they gonna be love interests? I don't think I am going to be able to buy that or her onscreen romance with Colin Firth. Their too old for her. Stone is just not someone I can picture pulling off an onscreen pairing with someone more than a decade older than her. Woody needs to cast younger actors.
