Is A 'Star Wars' Role Still In The Works For Lupita Nyong’o?

So earlier his week, as everyone knows, JJ Abrams announced
the cast of his upcoming Stars Wars: Episode 7, which is scheduled to come out during Christmas
time next year.

And the two things that everyone immediately noticed is
that 1) Lupita Nyong’o, who had a widely reported meeting with Abrams supposedly
to talk about joining the film, was not among the cast members announced; and 2) aside from Carrie Fisher, no doubt reprising her role of Princess Leia, only
one other actress, Daisy Ridley, has been named in the cast.

However, Abrams has been quoted as saying that more cast announcements
would be coming next week, and there has been speculation that one of those announcements could
be that of British actress Maisie
playing the role of the bi-racial descendant of Jedi
Knight Ben Kenobi

But since yesterday, buzz all over the internet on sites like Gawker (HERE) is
that, according to insiders involved with the Star Wars movie, both Zac Efron and
Ms. Nyong’o will be joining the film with, Nyong’o playing the role of Asajj Ventress.

I had to look it up to find out that Ventress is
a female
Dathomirian Dark Jedi and a valuable Dark Acolyte to Count Dooku… and trained as
a Jedi Padawan by Jedi Knight Ky Narec. However, after Narec was slain,
Ventress gave into her anger and began walking the path of the dark side;
taking up the lightsaber of her dead master, she trained herself in the Jar’Kai
style of lightsaber combat, before slaying all the warlords on Rattatak and
installing herself as its ruler.

You Star Wars geeks I’m sure will know what that means; but if it’s true, then this could be a very interesting role for her.

That is if it happens.

Nothing, of course, is for sure, but if these stories are
correct, then you heard it here first folks. If not, oh well, I’m been wrong before, too many times to count.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

The same PR people pushing this story are the ones who were pushing the false jared leto rumors.

Accidental Visitor

If Lupita is in the film I'm guessing it won't be as Ventress. Str Wars 7 from all reports will be filled with characters created for the film or characters that came from previous films. Ventress would not fit either of those descriptions. She is what is known as an EU character (Expanded Universe) and those characters were the ones created in books, games and the cartoons and it is highly unlikely Abrams is going down that route.

There is some speculation out there that any of these rumors regarding Lupita and SW is being pushed out there by her PR people. No reputable source has confirmed any f this and yet over the last 18 hours some people in the media are taking this Ventress stuff as gospl.

Nikki- Better yet imagine if Forest Whitaker was cast as the Ape Caesar in Planet of the Apes. Can you imagine the uproar?

That happened with Princess and the Frog. She was a Frog for most of the movie.

Imagine if Michael B. Jordan was casted as The Thing instead of Johnny Storm.

Asajj Ventrij is not human she's an alien. Even if she were Blue Red or Green. Black people would still have an issue with it because it's like they are hiding Lupita. This isn't like Michael B. Jordan in Fantastic Four at all Johnny Storm is not an alien. And you say why can't she play it just the way she is? Well then whoever plays the Red Skull shouldn't have any make up on Jennifer Lawrence shouldn't have any Blue make up on in X-men all Alien characters should look human. Jamie Foxx shouldn't look like that when he plays Electro. I'm not saying she can't play the character, I'm saying if she does play that role which I highly doubt then Lupita will be in makeup and Black people will have a problem.

Why do people even want Lupita to be in this? Especially if she is going to be gorged in makeup. IMO Lupita should run in the opposite direction and try for a more prestige film or a different franchise. Instead of doing interesting projects she is going to be stuck in a marginalized role for 5 years caked in make up.

As I said regarding Boyega it's good that he got the role, but people act like this is a slam dunk. This film could be a HUGE mess, like the prequels were. This is the umpteenth film about Star Wars and JJ Abrams is hit or miss. It certainly did no favors for Hayden Christenson.

I dont think they want to court the controversy of having Lupita in White skin. That particuar species has White Skin and she would be 80 years old …so I cant see it.

Movie Pilot reported this a couple of days ago as well. I guess we'll see this upcoming weekend…
