Ok, ok so I’ll get in there first and denounce myself fervently for being foolish enough to assume that you even have any lesbian fantasies, let alone claim to have found what might fulfill them all at once! But forgive my hyperbolas exuberance and watch these clips because I think I might be vindicated.
Why? Kristen Stewart and Juliette Binoche are in a seemingly suspenseful and definitely ambiguous flirtatious dynamic which is by definition stupidly hot and also coy and deeply mysterious. Maybe I’m alone in this but the older woman / younger woman thing, with all the cross-cutting power relationships that it involves, is intriguing at the best of times; when you include Bincohe and Stewart it is impossible not to be drawn in. If this film is as good as it looks, it could be an instant queer classic.
What’s more the film sounds really smart: I’m interested in watching far more stories about women facing aging in a culture which so frequently damns and isolates them as they do.
Finally, I know I’m not the only queer to have watched “All About Eve” and wished that particular very gay subtext could have been less sub and more text. As our very own Les Fabian pointed out in this gif-tastic piece, that film was a camp classic. I’ll wait to see “Clouds of Sils Maria” myself, of course, but are we looking at the possibility of a more openly queer “All About Eve”?
Have a look and judge for yourself:
