Heading into the Cannes International Film Festival — which opens Wednesday with Nicole Kidman vehicle “Grace of Monaco”–producer-financier Megan Ellison (Oscar contenders “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Her,” “American Hustle”) is launching Sony Pictures Classics’ much-anticipated true murder drama “Foxcatcher” in competition, directed by Bennett Miller and starring Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. And now that Annapurna is established as a brand, she’s rebranding her foreign sales arm Panorama Media with the Annapurna monicker.
Ellison seeks to streamline the financing and international sales arm, in sync with Annapurna’s day-to-day film production and finance business. Annapurna International will continue to handle sales of Annapurna’s titles as well as third party projects. This year Annapurna International’s Head of International Sales Kimberly Fox will be selling international rights for Nash Edgerton’s “American Express,” which will be produced by Annapurna Pictures and Denver & Delilah. Charlize Theron is in talks to star. Annapurna will also handle the international rights to John Krasinski’s “The Hollars” starring Krasinski, Anna Kendrick, Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale.
Annapurna International launched two years ago in Cannes with the sale of Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty,” and recently handled the international releases of Golden Globe winning films “American Hustle” and “Her” as well Bennett Miller’s “Foxcatcher.” The company’s upcoming projects include Marjane Satrapi’s psychological thriller “The Voices” starring Ryan Reynolds; Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s “Mississippi Grind” which stars Reynolds, Ben Mendelsohn and Sienna Miller; National Geographic’s 3D underwater James Cameron documentary “Deep Sea Challenge”; and ” The Road Within,” directed by Gren Wells.
