Trailer #2 For Universal's James Brown Biopic 'Get On Up' (Starring Chadwick Boseman)

Check out the just-released second trailer for Universal Pictures’ James Brown biopic, Get on Up.

The story begins with a 6-year-old James Brown, as he’s abandoned by his mother (played by Viola Davis) and left to live with his Aunt Honey (played by Octavia Spencer), who runs a brothel. And the film ends in 1993 with a comeback concert, after Brown served prison time for aggravated assault and eluding the police in a wild car chase.

So not quite a birth-to-death biopic.

Brown would eventually die on Christmas Day in 2006 – 13 years after the movie’s above ending.

Star Chadwick Boseman (as James Brown) will also reportedly frequently speak directly to the camera, breaking the so-called fourth wall, addressing the audience directly, and offering them insight into his choices – an interesting decision by director Tate Taylor, and producers Brian Grazer and Mick Jagger.

Universal has set the film’s release date for August 1, 2014, which isn’t too far away (3 months from now).

Get on Up was penned by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth, who wrote the script for Fair Game, which starred Naomi Watts and Sean Penn.

Might we be calling Chadwick Boseman “Academy Award nominee Chadwick Boseman” next January?

Just saw the movie. I think chad did an excellent job portraying James Brown. It was a difficult challenge, but he manage to capture the essence of James Brown. I will say I'm tired of the cheap wigs. They really have to-do something about the hair for Blacks from back in the day. I will recommend to friends. I never expect the actor to totally take on the persona of the legend, as long as I can see they truly studied their mannerisms, etc. I will give them credit.

Carefully Spoken

Chad has everything on point!!! Mr.Brown would've been proud!!!(as is his family) Very talented man!!! Let's see you do split after split jumping and screaming….I think not???!!!…

Having seen James Brown perform (LIVE) in the 60's and 70's…. I just can't do it. I mean, if Chadwick Boseman didn't open his mouth while sporting that goofy look (suggesting that his acting is suspect, to say the least) I might be inclined to jump aboard this mess. Yep, if the movie featured a sh*t load of James Brown's tracks and flashbacks to some of his concerts (minimizing Chadwicks participation) I'd jump all over this and advise my friends to do the same.

Hey, speaking of Mr. Brown's dance moves (which I doubt Chadwick can pull off) check out this youtube video. The man is killin' it… and Mr.. Boseman will not be able to touch that. Come on now, a questionable talent wearing (as Sergio calls it) cheap yak hair (purchased at the Dollar Store) doing the James Brown. Now that's a prescription for disaster.

Anyway, check out the clip: JAMES BROWN GREATEST DANCE MOVES…
