Watch: Enjoy this Delightfully Weird Trailer for Terry Gilliam's 'The Zero Theorem'

Terry Gilliam brings us back to the aesthetically unique world of “Brazil” in the international trailer for his upcoming release “The Zero Theorem.” Between the apparent themes of existentialism, the over-the-top costuming and steampunk set pieces, it is hard not to see the similarities to Gilliam’s 1985 masterwork. In a 2013 interview with The Playlist, he bluntly stated of the new film, “I think I made ‘Brazil’ for 2013.”

Blurring the lines of fantasy and reality to tell a time bending world full of angst, “The Zero Theorem” showcases the elements that made Gilliam a world-class director. Starring Christoph Waltz, Melanie Thierry, Matt Damon, David Thewlis, Tilda Swinton and Ben Whishaw, “The Zero Theorem” sets a troubled computer programmer on an impossible task of discerning the meaning of life. The programmer Qohen is played by a completely bald Waltz in a role that was previously cast for Ewan McGregor and Billy Bob Thorton.

This final installment in Gilliam’s self-described “Orwellian Triptych” — three dystopian satires that also includes “Brazil” and “12 Monkeys” — has not received a U.S. release date yet. It is being distributed by Amplify.
