Watch: First Teaser Clip From Ryan Gosling's Cannes Entry 'Lost River'

Ryan Gosling has been to the Cannes Film Festival as an actor, starring in the critically adored “Drive,” the equally admired “Blue Valentine” and the less universally embraced “Only God Forgives.” But this year he’s back as a filmmaker, with his directorial debut “Lost River” playing in Un Certain Regard. It premieres this week, and this first taste of his fantastical film has now arrived online.

“I wanted to make this film because it’s a movie that I would want to see. Like many children who grew up in the 1980s, I first approached the cinema through mainstream films. I was excited to shoot this kind of story, but with the language of filmmaker that I’ve acquired through the years,” Gosling said in the press notes for the film (via Ryan Gosling Addicted). And certainly, this teaser would’ve expanded our young minds. An array of striking images are compiled here, opening a window into the story of Billy, a single mother of two, who is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while her teenage son discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town.

Daryl Hannah

Gosling is the best. I will be watching this movie.

Who knew there weren't any African-Americans in Detroit anymore?

Can't judge the whole thing of course but already this clip wasn't very well directed….

LOL. Looks dumb as hell. Gosling is the worst.

looking forward to this

This actually looks good, kind of sarcastic and artsy. we can only find out after watching the whole movie.

That was supposed to be funny right?

I think the verdict will be like basically all of his films: the usual critics who kiss his ass (like this site, as mentioned before) will praise it but in the end, it will flop and leave little to no impression.

I totally forgot about him and haven't missed him one bit really. I was over him after Gangster Squad. He can stay behind the camera and just direct crappy movies for all I care.

This looks really good!

That was awful and unintentionally hilarious. Look how weird and eccentric he is!!!! *pukes*

Looks like he's copying George Washington/Beasts of the Southern Wild.
