2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Comedy Supporting Actor

2014 Emmy Predictions: Best Comedy Supporting Actor

Indiewire will provide regular updates of our predictions through August 25th, when the winners will be announced.

Fred Armisen got a nod! It’s one of the most surprising nominations of the year, and the group as a whole is missing a true lock to win. Could the “Portlandia” star pull off the win? Maybe, but Andre Braugher is going to try to take advantage of the (somewhat limited) love for “Brookyn Nine-Nine,” and two “Modern Family” stars are still in the mix, making the yearly contender (and consistent winner) a threat as well. Tony Hale, meanwhile, will be hoping to repeat as last year’s winner while Adam Driver may need some kind of “Star Wars” love crosses over from the film Academy to the Television Academy.

Below are predictions for best comedy supporting actor from both Indiewire Awards Editor Peter Knegt and TV Editor Ben Travers. Check out predictions in all the categories here.

The nominees:
Fred Armisen, “Portlandia”
Andre Braugher, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”
Ty Burrell, “Modern Family”
Adam Driver, “Girls”
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, “Modern Family”
Tony Hale, “Veep”

Ben’s predictions:
Will win: Andre Braugher, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”
Could win: Tony Hale, “Veep”
Should win: Ty Burrell, “Modern Family”
Shoulda been here: Rob Lowe, “Parks and Recreation”

Peter’s predictions:
Will win: Andre Braugher, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”
Could win: Tony Hale, “Veep”
Should win: Adam Driver, “Girls”
Shoulda been here: Albert Lsai, “Trophy Wife”

Ike Barinholtz and Adam Pally, The Mindy Project

My predictions for nominations (in no particular order):
Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Ty Burrell, Modern Family
Adam Driver, Girls
Tony Hale, Veep
Ed O'Neill, Modern Family
Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family

Who will win: Ed O'Neill (Modern Family)
Who could win: Ty Burrell (Modern Family)
Who should win: Ty Burrell (Modern Family)
Who should be here: Christopher Evan Welch (Silicon Valley) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family)

In a perfect world, Neil Patrick Harris would be nominated only because How I Met Your Mother ended. However, I do believe that Nick Offerman is LONG overdue for a nomination! Additionally, even though his show wasn't that great in its past season, Max Greenfield is fantastic on New Girl.

Hi! I am UEFL, a television critic.

Now, this year, Modern Family took a beat down from their previous seasons, however, the casts were quite great.

1) Ed O'Neill, Modern Family (Well deserving more than anyone)
2) Ty Burrell, Modern Family (One of the greats)
3) Andre Braugher, Brooklyn Nine-Nine (He has a nomination in the bag)
4) Eric Stonestreet, Modern Family (Great performance)
5) Adam Driver, Veep (Upsets Tony Hale, but still, HBO gets a nomination)
6) Jesse Tyler Fergusson, Modern Family (Sarcastic acting, but well done)

Tony Hale, Veep (Could tick off Fergusson)
Beau Bridges, The Millers (He was splendid)
Anyone else from Veep, Silicon Valley, Saturday Night Live and Shameless

In A Perfect World:

Fred Armisen, Portlandia
Fred Willard, Family Tree

Philippe Augusto

Nick Offerman!!! o/

Noel Fisher from Shameless needs to be at least nominated this year!

Personally, I think Noel Fisher should be mentioned, if not praised for his phenomenal acting talent displayed so brilliantly in the role of Mickey Milkovich in Shameless. His flawless delivery if every line and movement is truly priceless and seems so effortless. He definitely deserves to win, without a shadow if a doubt!

Noel Fisher deserves this more than anyone else. His ability to make the audience feel a cornucopia of emotions is like no other. To anyone who says otherwise, just watch Shameless and see how absolutely brilliant that man is

Noel fisher – shameless deserves it. He is so amazing :) and to be honest he completely rules this category

Noel Fisher, Shameless is an actor who has touched the hearts of many and deserves complete credit for that. To be quite honest, I'd be outraged if he didn't win.

Noel Fisher! He has brought so much to the table with his acting in Shameless as the role, Mickey Milkovich. He deserves to take this home.

Noel Fisher from Shameless, hands down the best supporting actor this year, whether recognised or not.

Anyone from Parks or Shameless. I would really like to see shameless get some nominations.

The Great Alex

Anyone from Community for god's sakes

Christopher Evan Welch for SILICON VALLEY.

Raj & Wolowitz

Adam Driver (Girls) and Noel Fisher (Shameless) brought the house down this year. Too bad that their shows are not exactly "comedies".

Neil Patrick Harris from HIMYM

Actually, only three "Modern Family" cast members were nominated last year. In favor of Eric Stonestreet were Tony Hale, Adam Driver and Bill Hader.

Noel Fisher, Shameless
