BET Sets Premiere Date for Ava DuVernay's Sundance Winning Drama 'Middle of Nowhere'

BET has announced the television premiere of Ava DuVernay’s 2012 Sundance Film Festival winning film (Best Director Award), “Middle of Nowhere,” which stars Emayatzy Corinealdi, Omari Hardwick, and David Oyelowo.

To be broadcast under its BET Premiere Cinema banner, “Middle of Nowhere” will make its television debut on BET, on Wednesday, July 23 at 9/8c.

Lorraine Touissaint, and Edwina Findley round out the film’s key cast, in a story that follows the struggles of an African American woman (played by Corinealdi) to maintain her marriage and identity, after her husband (Hardwick) is incarcerated.

The film was jointly-acquired by Participant Media and AFFRM, and saw a limited theatrical release in October 12, 2012.

Its BET premiere on July 23 will mark its first ancillary release since its 2012 theatrical run, which should be music to the ears of many of you who still haven’t seen the acclaimed drama.

In the meantime, watch its trailer below as a refresher:

What happen to this movie airing. What's going on with BET getting everyone tunnel in for nothing. I mean really!!!!

This is so disappointing! I've been waiting two years to watch this movie or purchase it on DVD and BET decides NOT to air the show? What's the reasoning??? Ugh!

I've been looking forward to this movie coming out on DVD since it came out and I couldn't make a screening. After cringing at the thought that I would have to watch it on BET (with possible major edits and cuts) I finally accepted my fate and became excited. I set to record on DVR so I can skip the ads. Lo and behold BET has replaced the show times with Deliver from us from Eva. No explanations, nothing. So disappointed.

Criminal that BET had kept this away from the public for so long. It was a really special film. I hate that it's in the hands of people who didn't know what they had for the past two years. Now they want to jump on it now that she's in the spotlight with the King movie it feels like.

I missed this when it came to Chicago & have been waiting for a DVD release. When is that going to happen?

At last! Nice going, BET.

Ava Duvernay's intelligent answer to the hideously simple Monster's Ball.

FINALLY!

I don't know BET's rationale for keeping this 2012 film
from the public for so long, but at least it will finally be shown on TV so that the world can finally see what I think is an important aspect of life in the black community that's rarely explored. We've all seen films about men being incarcerated and maybe a prison visit scene, but never what happens to their family on the outside. Well this film shows that.

I wrote a glowing review of the film on the 'Nother Brother Entertainment blog when I saw it IN THEATERS in that mentioned "limited theatrical release". For the BET viewers though the film does have some profanity, but not much and no violence either.
The TV version should pretty much be the same as the theatrical version.

I'll be glad when a larger audience gets to see this film! This type of intelligent, inclusive story about people of color in our communities is not only wanted, but dare I say needed.

Women in the Lead character's situation will know what I mean by that last statement after they see it.

Daint music to my ears. Hell, who likes the sounds of 5 minutes of programing followed by 4 minutes of commercials? Come on now, that does not sound good to me.

Well, lets see how this hits your ear drums. Middle of Nowhere has a running time of 93 minutes. We can safely assume it's scheduled in a 2 1/2 – 3 hour time slot. Ouch… you do the math.

I'll tell you what, hearing the movie exiting my closest Red Box would be music to my ears. Geez, I'd rather pay $1.29 than sit through hours of easy credit rip-off commercials.

Glad BET is adding some substance to its line-up!
