Sarah Paulson is set to join Nicolas Cage in “The Runner,” a film helmed by Austin Stark about an idealistic but fallible New Orleans congressman, Colin Price, whose career is derailed by a sex scandal.
According to Deadline, Paulson–who most recently appeared on the big screen in the Oscar-winner “12 Years a Slave”– will play a PR fixer who Cage’s character hires in order to get himself back on track. Paulson is best known for her Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated turn in HBO’s “Game Change.” She was also nominated for an Emmy last year for “American Horror Story: Asylum.” Madeleine Stowe, of ABC’s “Revenge,” will star as Price’s wife.
As TOH! wrote earlier this year, Cage seems to have made a welcome career turn, after spending years taking on too many roles that led to overexposure. This year, he starred in “Joe,” turning in one of his best performances since Werner Herzog’s “Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.” Perhaps Cage will take another step with “The Runner” toward acting cred.
“The Runner” will be produced by Paper Street Films and Back Lot Productions. Production began last month in New Orleans.
